Probably just a trial and error kinda thing. Sounds like you got a whole lot more spacers delivered than I did.....hmmmmm

I'm gonna send my exhaust shield off to Jaxon after the 1st of the year and then see about getting the bags pulled in.

Right now limited by the exhaust shield anyway so no joy.

Splitting lanes has been a bit hair raising a few times..... ???

Has anyone just pitched the muffler guard and tucked the bags in as close as possible? Don't know if you would need to put some heat shield on the bags.....?

I'm going to be trying that, probably over Christmas...

Are the Jesses' powder-coated inside as well?

Are you saying you removed the grab rails, but needed to use more spacers than already supplied? I have 2 spacers at each mounting point, I was figuring they would be enough for whatever spacing I end up with after removing the rails.

Trevor
Their spacers; one thick, one thin at each handle mounting point, one thin at each passenger peg mounting point. I used spacers the same thickness as the handles, 3/8", plus the spacers provided if the handles were still in place. Everything is square. I'm thinking a cut down muffler cover and my spacers gone and the thin ones gone at the foot pegs will suck the bags in a tiny bit more, 3/8" plus 3/8" equals 3/4" less width! LOL. That's why I went with the 9" Safari bags anyway, they're already two inches narrower than the 10" Jessies. I would like to replace my 3/8" spacers and their one thin one with a single 3/4", or rather, the kit's 3/4" and another for an inch and a half. While my spacers work, they don't match.

I like the looks, width, adjustability, capacity, and overall construction of the Jesse's; had a set of Odyssey I's on my GSA for 100K. What I notice on the Odyssey II's is the single attachment for the top of each bag to the frame mounts. I see that a lot of the weight rests on the lower mount but it still seems as if there would be a fair amount of leverage on the top mount when fully loaded and on rough roads.

What is your impression of the top mount? What is the Cam made from? Is it cast or some other metal? Is there a locking mechanism to keep the crank handle from loosening up? It's hard to tell how this system works from the Installation Manual.

Thanks for any insight you can share...

Pete

The interior crank cinches against a billet disk about four inches across, the cam against the mount is a very stout chunk of billet as well. Once you've got the crank cinched against the two rubber dampeners and the framework it takes a lot of work to un-cinch things. I've had a chance to look at a GS with Jesse's. The set up for the Tenere is more robust and less fiddle-y than what I saw on the admittedly older GS set-up.

Cool! The Jesse's keep coming back to the top of the list. Friends keep recommending the Touratechs but I have a hard time with the wasted space between the bike and bags, resulting in excess width and less capacity. Nicer framework with bags off but suspect mine will be on 95% of time anyway.

Thanks for the input.

Hey Pete. I have the Jesse's and they are a nice setup, well made bit expensive but you get what you pay for. Great white north where would that be?

Duluth, MN, (southern great white) but not so white this year.

I had the Jesse's on the GSA and liked them a lot. Even after jumping off a 1 foot ledge at speed this summer (not intentional) fully loaded, they flexed quite a bit, according to my riding partner behind me, but nothing broke. Plus I kept the lid bags I had so would work nice in the new set up.

What color is your bike and what color bags did you go with?

Not much on such things (includes stickers on my cars), but it seems to me that if you HAD to do it, maybe "TENERE" would have been a better choice. On the other hand maybe he does racks for other "unnamed" 1200 CC bikes that he uses these on as well.

Seems unlikely that the BMW or Ducati crowd would buy into something like that.

Yeah, maybe Starbucks or Latte. 8)

Pete, also had Odyssey I's on a GSA. The current (S10) mount if far superior and more robust as compared to the previous (GS) set up.

As noted above, the billet cam is extremely robust and if you break that, you've most likely got a lot bigger problems than your bag falling off.....

There is no locking mechanism on the crank handle but I have not had it loosen yet with loaded bags on some very rough roads. I initially checked it several times on rides as I too was a bit nervous about the set up.

If anything, I've gotten to the point I tighten it LESS as it has yet to be any issue whatsoever.
Hope this helps.

Crank handle? Does that secure the cases to the racks?

That's my best description. There is a threaded rectangular billet "cam" on the back of the bag with indentations that fit the brace after being rotated. There is a round billet base inside the bag with a "crank" that you tighten up to secure the bag.
Will try to send some pics later (if anyone cares)
Much simpler in function than description.
As I said before, if you manage to break any of these parts the bag is going to be the least of your worries...ie; you just got hit by a truck.....
