I have the 11" units, I've not measured the total width and compared to the width at the engine guard. They came with the bike (got it used) but have not had the chance to use them. I kept my Wolfman Expedition bags and attached them to the Jesse mounts for weekend rides. I figure the soft bags would make nice pillows should I dump the bike on a trail.
That was my thought when I bought the Wolfman.... Lightweight, durable, can take a beating. But, after using them on our big trip last year I saw some pro's to the aluminum panniers... Easier/quicker to remove, able to remove items easier, & lockable. Like everything.....there are pro's & con's. I believe the Jesse panniers will better fit my needs. It looks all the sizes look good and fit the bike well. Thanks for the input.

Limey,
Can you comment on where, within available travel, you have your jesse boxes? Are they all the way forward, all the way rearward, or someplace in between?
Better still, can you post a pic of a bag in each extreme position?
Thanks,
Tupperware

Good request Tupperware. That is something else I was wondering. That seems to be a pretty neat feature this pannier system has, as well. Thanks for the pics. Limey. I believe I have decided to go with the 10" Odessey set up. There seems to be a lot of positive feedback on the Jesse system that makes me feel confident that they would be a good choice.

I've have the Jesse bags on a couple bikes and like them but they do leak and that's a deal killer for me. I went with the Bumots this time around and they haven't leaked a drop and are as good as the jesses IMO as far as toughness. They are aluminum boxes so no matter the brand, a good drop and they will bend.

Thanks for sharing the pics of your Bumots. They do look like a great box but, just haven't seen much on them. My concerns on the Bumots....the lock/latch durability & the hardware that secures the box to the rack. There site did not give a very good picture shot.

Have you adjusted your latches and checked the hinges?

After changing the locks on my cases (I was in an accident and replaced one of the two cases) I found that the latches needed to be adjusted and one of the acorn nuts on a hinge worked it's way loose, I can see where those problems could've caused them to leak a bit. Other than that - I've had them on the bike in near monsoon weather and didn't leak a drip. Never submerged 'em though...

Yeah, I tried that, didn't work.. doesn't matter now as I don't have those bikes or those bags anymore... funny as everyone I know personally that has them says they leak.

limey,
Thanks for the pics and measurements. I believe I would have to run them in the full rearward position in order to clear my ample butt! I have a set on my KLR and cannot run them more than mid way forward or they interfere with my position on the seat.

Re: leaks
I have had a set for about 4 years. One box leaked first downpour. I traced it to the adjustable delrin mount on the backside. I seem to recall that a set a friend installed on his BMW had o-rings on the crank lock mechanism so I took everything apart and installed greased o-rings on all the bolts from the outside of both boxes. They have remained dry since. We shouldn't have to waterproof them ourselves, but I'm almost 100% sure I will install Jesse's on my ST this spring.

My thoughts on both these bags was to run the Jesse bags on the highway and carry the Wolfman on top/on luggage rack like they were 2 smaller duffel bags. When I get to my destination I'd drop the Jesse bags and put the Wolfman units on for day rides. The context: I would like to get out to camp in Colorado and do trail riding from base camp. If I"m lucky I'll do the Colorado Back Country Discovery Rt this summer, for that I most likely will use the Jesse units.

Good combination for utilization of hard & soft luggage. I agree, the soft bags would be good for the shorter/ lighter trips.
