Hey Jim,

I'm sorry to hear about all this and my apologies for not posting this week. Been one of those weeks.

Glad it turned out that you can still type.

Heal quickly old man and get back on those horses.

As the others here have said, take it steady for a while now and allow yourself time to heal properly. Seems that none of us bounce off hard surfaces as well as we used to when we were 21 ::). Anyhow, get well soon and best wishes from the cold, grey and damp side of the pond. ::008::

Glad to hear that you are on the mend and looking forward to the book.

When "they" ask what you did, maybe it's simpler to just tell people that you fell off a ladder.

Hey thanks again guys for the prayers and well wishes. The pics of the nurses were very nice.. :D I had some good care at the hospital, with two very pretty RN's and that made me feel all better. >:D

The reports are coming in now, and the rider behind me, said I came into a dog leg a little hot. Made the first turn ok, but my front hooked up on the second one and I high sided. The bike coming down on me caused most of my damage.
Can't wait to try that again. ???

Anyway I'm doing fine for the time being and will see Doctors in the morning for the broken bones and a concussion. I looked at my helmet and it took some hard hits. The face shield is gone and there are some deep scrapes and gouges. I guess I'll have to buy a new one.. ::024::

I have always worn ATGATT and this was no exception. I had a new Klim TecVest and New Icon Stryker elbow and forearm guards. The vest I thought would have done a better job, but others have said the way the bike hit me, it save me from a lot more damage. It seems the rear wheel came down on my shoulder, and not much other than a cage could have stopped the injuries.

The elbow gruards slid up and in their present form I can't recommend them. I had them strapped on tight, but they still moved. I guess it could have been worse.
There was no damage to the elbow, just rash on the forearm. I have an idea on how to stop the sliding and they may still work as intended.

I was wearing BMW Rallye 3 pants with the D30 armor and had no bumps or bruises at all. That is not the first time I have tested the pants and they get a thumps up for protection. Quality made pant and the D30 is really great.

Ok guys, just saying thanks again and just waiting on the next ride.
Ride safe and always keep a smile on your face,,,
Jim

I've got the d3o and appreciate your sharing that it did work!
The should and fore arm sound painful tho.

Heal up.

Is the Klim tecvest d30 armour inside, or is it hard armor?

Only reason I ask, is that I've been running the rokgardn tecvest, but it was between that and the Klim suit a couple years ago.

I did a lot of research on body armor when I went back to a dirt bike and the Klim is what won out, especially in rib protection.
The vest has soft armour next to your body and then hard, and a very tough mesh on the outside. Here is a link.

The vest does not have D30, and I'm not sure what it does have. I talked with the owner of Tecvest and we discussed D30. After the talk, I was convinced it was good.

I was going to go with the Rokgardn pressure suit, but the Klim won out.. lol I've only used it on two rides, one in Big Bend, and the last one with a high side.

I was never hot in the vest and I can unzip it and take it off in a second. The shoulder protectors are really nice. The only part I don't like is the top of the shoulder. Although as one person put it, the way I got hit by the bike, it still did a pretty good job. I would like to see a layer of D30 there. I'm going to talk with the owner again, when my head is up to it, and go over what happened and what changes could be made, if any.

Unfortunately, when you high side and have things (e.g. bikes) fall on you, you're pretty much up to good fortune on how you're going to come out. The only thing that turned me off was the Klim, the positives you mentioned are probably why it's that spendy, though. If it's comfortable and easy to use, you're going to wear it.

One negative about the Rokgardn is that the forearms are a bit tricky if you're putting it on. It's removable, but offers pretty good protection, so it stays on if I'm wearing it. My Traverse pants and Jacket is solely d30, as that's my commuting setup. If I'm doing a fair bit of off road, these stay back.

I'm just glad you had the suit on, who knows how much worse it could have been if you hadn't been wearing it, or anything for that matter. Good on you for ATGATT ::008::
