For the past several months, I have been using an iPad for most of my visits to the forum. Many strange things seem to happen that I never experience with either my desktop or my netbook.

The latest is that when viewing the " Show unread posts", each topic has a large graphic image for the Madstad adjustable brackets kits in the place where you normally see the "New" link.

Any other iPad users see this too?

(and no, I have not been hitting the bottle this morning)

:)

I don't know, Rod. I just fired up my 'lil bastard iPad (I'm an Android guy) and gave the "Unread Topics" link a tap. No issues here.

How do I tell? It just says "iPad 32GB" on the back. I went into "settings" and it doesn't seem to show what version of the OS it is, at least I don't know where to find it...

Hmmmm, there is probably an easy way to tell the early from the later ones, but I don't know what it is. Under settings and general is where you see the OS. I recently updated mine to the latest 5.0.1

I've got the transformer and it's fine.
The original? I have heard a lot of good things about them and excited to get mine.

Perhaps that would be "Version"? If so, mine is 4.3.3.

Yeah, sorry about that. Version it is. :). Still not sure if yours is a 1 or a 2. My model is "MC916LL", which is a 64G wifi (shoulda bought a 32 or even a 16)

I just noticed that YouTube videos embedded into posts don't seem to work on the iPad. Another bummer or just my iPad?

Some do and some don't. They do not show in the post, but you can click on the text to launch.

Yes, really like it... I can do pretty much anything I need to while traveling. Love the keyboard as a battery. The keyboard could have a better touch to it but you get used to it. Great size, great display... funny, now that my phone and this are android.. I catch myself trying to zoom in on my zumo gps using my thumb/finger.. LOL

Garmin needs to SERIOUSLY revamp the Zumo line. Their product is becoming rather unappealing when compared against the tablet/smartphone mapping solutions.

Cool!! I'm going to try it without the keyboard initially and then go from there. I've gotten used to the virtual KB on the iPad (as much as you can get used to an iPad), but still miss the "true" KB at times. Funny how after using a tablet for a while how I too try to squeeze the screen on my netbook sometimes......

I went from a 2610 to a 550 and now a 665. I like the 665 a lot. It's fast at calculating, has bluetooth and sat radio capability.

I'm not sure what else I'd want in a gps. I suppose wifi would be interesting w/browser capability.. you could pull into a parking lot of a hotel and check mail while still on the bike. But, not sure I'd use that part. Just having it able to interface w/phone is nice.

I'm at the 2610 to a 550 stage and not even sure what I want next (whenever next happens)......

I think the end game is smartphones as GPS units, but waterproof, sunlight readable, and with GPS that still works if it loses the cell connection. Google Maps on Android actually will continue to work if you lose signal, just don't give it a reason to recalculate or you're screwed.

My son tried to use an iPhone on his FJR on a trip to Florida and had problems with it getting too hot and shutting down from the direct sunlight.

The average smartphone just isn't made to work in the conditions it sees on a motorcycle. However, all the technology is there to make a device that will. Somebody just needs to package it all up and figure out an economical way to get an internet connection to it (either 3g built-in or wi-fi with your normal smartphone as a hotspot in your pocket).
