If you *had* to ride a different bike, what would you pick?

I have to ride my MT01 regularly, just because it is so much fun. I have to laugh at everyone who complains about engine braking on the S10 - it’s none existent compared to this

I too don't understand the engine braking. Compared to my other bikes it is minimal... plus, I use it on purpose when riding. I need it. Nice ride and a great picture.

Yeah when Nels flashed mine i asked to keep the engine braking. Im super happy with how it turned out. It was flashed with ecu unleashed.

Before i bought my ST (which popped up locally at too good to refuse deal)
I really had convinced myself that the 901 was it (even willing to chance KTM reliability. Lol)
I finally found a real last spring and i could barely touch the ground on tips of my toes. It completely ruled out 2up riding and i was disappointed to have to take it off consideration list.

Dealing with CKD the last year and a half has taken a toll. Also turning 68 has made me realize the ST is just too big and heavy at this juncture. I need something smaller (under 500 lbs) but able to handle dirt/gravel roads.....nothing too gnarly. I prefer a 19/17 inch wheel setup. Power is not a huge factor as my go fast days are behind me. I'd prefer a reliable twin with a nice cadence and reasonably comfortable. I'm not sure just how much riding I'm up for and it'll be a bit of an experiment to see just how my body handles it. I'm thinking a Wee Strom would fit the bill. No, it's not exciting but I'm not looking for a thrill, I'm looking for an easy, reliable companion for the road.
It's gonna hurt saying goodbye to the ST though. It's everything I wanted (I just wish it was 100 lbs lighter)

You may want to look at a NC700X or XD or a newer NC700X or XD. Yes, it is close to 500# but the engine is canted forward to 62° and you sit on the gas tank. Easy maintenance and fabulous fuel mileage. All the weight is LOW and easy to ride. Just had someone who rode along with us to Fairbanks, Alaska just fine. I bought a 700X and an XD. One for each daughter and they are 5'7" so I had to lower them a bit.
Just something to consider. I like them.

I did consider it. Unlike the CBX500, it has 17/17 wheels. I'd prefer a 19 front hoop for the dirt roads.

Sounds like you're a good candidate for a BMW F750GS. It ticks all the boxes mentioned.

Before people start screaming about BMW.... She had about 22K miles on the bike and it was excellent in reliability. Biggest complaint, on two occasions there were some issues with the left hand-grip cluster. Both issues worked themselves out after a reboot, or one took an extra day drying out from riding for hours in frog strangling rain. My wife would tell you it was pretty hot on the left side of the bike at slower speeds.

Personally, I think it was a fantastic bike. Kinda sorry to see it go. Not right for me...I'm still a power junkie. It was quick and enjoyable to ride.

I owned a Versys-X 300 for almost three years…..a lot of fun to ride, had 17/19 wheels, and was light at under 400 lbs. Another consideration is a Yamaha Tracer 900 GT……runs great, feels lighter than the listed weight, has cruise control, but does have 17” wheels.

Same age and thoughts on what led me to the 463lb V85TT. Definitely nicer than a WeeStrom!

My criteria is about 100hp and under 500lbs. My 890 Adventure is that and a great bike. It does everything well. If I had to pick a bike other than the 890 it would be really tough, maybe the MG V85, maybe a Ducati Supersport. I know they're very different but both appeal to me. If Yamaha made a real MT-10 touring bike I'd be all over that but as is it's too limited. FJRs are great but too dated, RTs are nice but having ridden them thousands of miles I just don't like the boxers.

I’ve always fancied a Z1300. I couldn’t quite afford one back in the day and had to settle for a Z1000st but I’ve always hankered after the 13
