I posted about this last week, and promised to make a new thread with an update when I have one...
Last Saturday I stopped at my local dealer to ask whether there's any chance to get one, when I didn't pre-order. They looked at their computer and said they thought they could get me one. Then they quoted me a stupid high OTD price. I said we can talk dollars once we know for sure they can get one; there's no sense me arguing with salespeople about dollars for vapor-bikes.
So today I stopped in again. They said they followed up directly with Yamaha this week, and they can definitely get me one, any color I want, and have it for me in one week. They think Yamaha has plenty of them in the warehouse. They cannot, however, order it until they have signed paperwork and a deposit - Yamaha won't let them put one on the floor just on spec; they will send one right away but only if there's an order. They quoted me the same stupid high price. I said that while I am very excited about this bike, I am not going to pay a price that makes me feel like an idiot. Waiting would let me see what Honda unveils in the fall before I decide, and I am not without patience.
I live in a place where I cannot ride year round, but I sold my pickup in April and am currently bikes-only. I was planning to buy a brand new car before the snow comes. But the financial plans for the new car, could buy me an S10 and a used car. A woman's gotta have her priorities straight after all. ;D
So, what's the price that I should tell my dealer will bring me off the fence, to buy an S10 this week? Where do I draw the dollar line, between buying now and waiting for winter? What are other people paying for theirs? Anyone have websites with pricing, or better yet is anyone willing to share actual documentation of what you paid, that I could show to my dealer?
Also I am curious whether anyone else has had this kind of discussion with a dealer. It is surprising to me that they are so sure they could just get one like this, when we've had all this drama and scarcity here.
