I'm totally in favor of the dealer making a profit, but I'm not paying $500 over MSRP to give them one. Especially when they don't even have to carry the bike in their inventory for more than the day or two it will take them to uncrate it and call me to pick it up.

My dealer just called me. They have backed down from their assertion that there are gobs of these just sitting in the Yamaha warehouse waiting for someone to order them. Now they're saying they are negotiating to bring some specific bike here for me. That sounds far more likely to me, than this "Yamaha has plenty" theory they've been spinning so far. They are going to call me with an update tomorrow.

I sent them an email with a very specific offer of what am willing to pay, and promised to buy if they can meet that offer. I'm not going to go somewhere else unless/until they fail. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Oops, sorry 'bout that - now updated.

Delivered in SE PA - my bike has a build date of 06/2011 and was delivered to dealer on 07/29. That's a pretty quick turn around depending on what the VIN build date is actually based on - built in Japan, or VIN plate in US? My serial number is also 011 so a low number but not sure if they are issued numerically?

Oh, and Katherine - This Bike is well worth the price of admission. Only been riding mine for a few days now and each day I like it more and more. Granted I REALLY miss my VFR's beautiful V4, but this bike is SO much more comfortable and relaxing to just ride. The VFR just wanted to go 100 mph all the time, the S10 is just so leisurely to ride but still has plenty of punch when needed. And there is no way my VFR would have liked the dirt road and stream I rode thru yesterday O
