So I've been slowly breaking in the bike over the last few weeks and decided to re- ride the route that I was on last Oct when the issue with my engine occurred.

First I have to say that the bike has been running very well (until today)

Rode 270 KM and dumped the oil this week, the oil looked perfectly clean no metal whatsoever anywhere !

Today I had a 500KM ride (same route as last Oct) WELL guess what I was about 120KM from home when the bike stalled (as I was about to pull onto the highway) and wouldn't restart so the bike is being towed in to shots as the first service could not make it to my area, it will get dropped off at the dealer on Monday/Tuesday!

So I've had it with the ST will be looking for an alternative here's my list in ascending order:

Triumph T1200 GT Explorer (there are some 2023's at very low prices' but the 2024 has some interesting changes to its engine that might be wort the extra $$)
Honda AT 2024 Sport ES
BMW 1300 (I was hoping to wait another year before taking a serious look at the Adventure that should come out later this year)

I was starting to plan to ride the TUK next year - know it might have to wait

The oil filter was clean - the issue today seems electrical. One way or the other looking forward to the results following the dealers analysis ?

Well just heard back from the dealer, same problem again a compression pin malfunction. We are waiting for Yamaha to go see the bike and give us their take.

WOW.... One is a million.... There must be a systemic issue with a conjoining part.... IMOP...

As others wrote, this sounds like a symptom and they haven't found the origin of the issue. Too many of these bikes have been running with only minor issues for 14* years to have it be a typical bike problem. (*They came out in 2010 outside of the US)

There is no way I could possibly recommend the Triumph. btdt, lost money to get rid of one, and there are good reasons that 2023s still sit on dealer floors.

If going up anywhere even somewhat remote I would strongly recommend the Honda AT of those three choices. Maybe a last gen BMW.
Absolutely not the Triumph 1200 or any new just-released BMW model.

That's a shame because this current Gen was supposed to be vastly superior in every way to the last Gen. And personally, I think it's the best looking ADV bike. But as one brand after another from the UK/EU disappoints in the long run, it becomes obvious to just stick with any of the brands made in Japan.
