Re: 2014 Non ES Factory Heated Grips

Thanks again! They didn't have the 'Protector 1' so I ordered through PartsPak.com for $225 shipped. Thanks to all the contributors in this thread! C:)

Re: 2014 Non ES Factory Heated Grips

I was just informed by PartsPak.com that the 'Protector 1' is no longer purchasable as it has been discontinued. Seems Yamaha has wised up to selling all the parts of the kit separately. Guess I'll have to buy the kit now.

For those of you that self installed, did you get the Yamabond 7 adhesive or use something else?
I may stop by the dealership today, but I doubt they keep yamabond in stock.
For anyone else doing the install themselves (just got done Sunday) Windex still works fine. Also - in place of Yamabond 7 you can use any grip glue. Same stuff less expensive. Hairspray is another solution. My heated grips have been great since just using windex. The factory grip glue is clear, and it covers the entire inside of the grip.

I called a local Yamaha dealer and stressed I needed to replace the "discontinued" part. They called Yamaha and the response was that the part was discontinued by accident. Yamaha said they'd correct that. I ended up ordering the Protector 1 part through the dealer with an ETA of 2-4 weeks coming from Japan.

Here's a pic of the Protector 1 Item: 2KB-2622K-00-00

Re: 2014 Non ES Factory Heated Grips

Thanks TenereStreets, I have one on order also, ( got the grips) not expected until mid sept.
My bike is in Cal., I'm flying out to get it on sept 9th. I would like to have a plan 'B' in place.
Does anyone have one available to measure so I could possibly fab one up? Also is it metal, or plastic?

It's plastic and it's not needed to install the grips. It's just there to take up slack so you don't pinch it when you put the throttle cable cover assembly back in place (it's like a clamshell design). I actually installed everything and forgot to put that part in and it worked fine. Went back and installed it anyway then realized it's not really a necessary part for the operation of the grip heaters.

Re: 2014 Non ES Factory Heated Grips

When I originally bought my bike, I replaced the grips with studded pillow top MX type grips when installing the ProTaper Raptor bars (awesome mod by the way!!!)....does anyone know or possibly done the same with the OEM heated grips by putting more aggressive grips on top of the heated OEM portions/parts? Not sure if the heating elements are actually incorporated into the grips OR if they are like many of the aftermarket types that apply a heating element/wrap to the throttle tube/bar.....

They are the grips, not an element.

I had a reply from the seller and they are Yamaha dealers and he reckons he can get some more so if interested in some I suggest you make contact direct with seller. Cheers

See the posts on the first page of this thread and I'm guessing that they SHOULD work. I emphasize the word "should" because there are some electrical differences with your Euro bikes, such as immobilizers. This should not matter for heated grips though.

Shoot, my 2012 oem heated grip throttle side wire fatigued and broke after 2 years despite having been packed with Teflon lube. My attempted repair lasted only a week. I might have to completely revert the install, then install something like Oxfords.

But just in case, does anyone know if the above part (heated grip warmer, right) might be compatible with the 2012 kit and therefore a potential solution?

Great info here for a new 2014-2016 owner like myself. Perhaps this should be a sticky? ::012::

Thanks!

Plug on the dash is only three amps, you blew a fuse.
