I am a Libertarian

I only carry on the bike, and usually only if I'm going out in the mountains as a just in case, what if I break down and am stuck overnight, or get picked up by rapey hillbillies.....

I am, however, going to get my CCW here soon, mostly because I can and just to be legal if I ever decide to carry more often.

I just thought of a new thread

Yup, I carry concealed on the bike.

Under 'normal' circumstances, I prefer to carry concealed in an IWB (inside the waistband) holster but it's tough to make work properly with a snug motorcycle jacket. Neither my leather Joe Rocket nor my Darien are friendly to belt-carry.

So what I do is wear one of these in its waist-strap configuration when I'm on the bike. The guy they chose to model it must be a midget 'cuz it looks a lot smaller on me than it does on him! The Thermite is not waterproof; when the rain comes, it goes in the trunk.

I admit it looks ridiculously 'mall ninja' under non-riding circumstances. But in the company of a Shoei and an Aerostich, it never gets a second glance.

I carry a Springfield Armory XD in 45 ACP or an XDM in 9mm, depending on the time of year. If I think I'll be in the presence of big bitey critters, I carry a small, 5-shot 44 Magnum revolver. All three fit in the Thermite. (Not at the same time, though!)

And, yes, I have my Colorado CCW. In fact, I'm an NRA certified firearms instructor. I teach CCW courses!

Ok being Canadian I don't know if we are just plain trustworthy or naive. The wife and I do more of our biking in the USA than in Canada and it has never crossed our minds to carry a weapon. I am interested to know how many of you guys travel outside the USA or does not being able to carry a fire arm in Canada limit you to the US?

Thanks Paul.

I don't want to start a political debate here so if you are a nut on either side of the spectrum, keep your opinions at bay.

I for one admire you Trevor , I've following your trip through Mexico must say you have bigger balls than me. I'm not trying to stir the pot but coming from north of the border it really makes me wonder how safe it is to travel through the USA.
Signed Big wiener North of the border..
OT but... Ball size has nothing to do with it! Mexico has some challenges for sure, but mainly they are to do with roads and traffic. From a security perspective, for the average moto-gringo it is very safe. Sure something bad might happen, but that goes for anywhere, and I'm beginning to think it is less likely here than the US; I don't know, probably it's something wrong with me, people keep telling me I should feel safer the more guns that are out there - but I don't. Strange eh?

Yeah, teenaged security guards at check points armed with M16s don't count...

I spend two months every winter travelling around Mexico on a motorcycle . Never had a problem. With all the gun toting paranoids in the US I'm pretty sure Mexico is safer.

Twinrider, while I appreciate your enthusiasm, I just had to remove that pic, a little too "racy" for these parts.

I thought that pic was a lot of things, but "racy" wasn't one that came to mind!

Glock 17 or Springfield XD45, and adding a Glock 36 to my permit in April when I renew. Probably be the Glock 36 while on the bike.
Had a Glock 36 in my hands last week. Not sure if it sold. Have you looked at the Springfield Armory XDs 45 Compact http://www.xdspistol.com/specs.php . Good alternative.

Yes , I carry a Ruger SP-101 in 38 spl. / .357 Mag with a 3 in. barrel. ( For years I carried the Ruger SP-101 in 32 H7R Mag , but switched to the 357 a few years back ). I never leave home without it and I always carry it on my belt in the homemade horse hide holster I made for it , and I carry a couple speed loaders as well. If it gets to hot in summer and I don't want to wear a long shirt to cover the gun , I will carry it in a leather fanny pack.
Here is a couple pictures of my gun and home made horse hide holster. :)
