That color combo sounds nice, too! Now you've got me wondering how that would look.

Hey Micatech, how about a couple of Photoshopped pics of the black w/gray doors and gray w/black doors? We don't ask for much, do we? Ha ha!
Silver doors was easy to photoshop. Silver bags, not so much... How's this for a rough idea. Looks pretty slick...

I do like that look. I am researching the bag now. I need to know how it holds up in a crash. It looks like the door could get tweaked and then let water in.. Other than that, I would like to see some with the door open and packed. I had side opening saddlebags on my wing and liked and disliked. More liked... :) I am also looking at the Trekkers. Oh, and I need a good set of crash bars.. :))

Here's some packing pictures. These are semi-side loaders, so unlike a clamshell, the bottom well helps to hold your gear in. Stuff it all in there, use some dry bags, or use our custom liner bags.

And a couple crash pictures:

The doors have a support brace that runs the length of the door. It's rugged. Our customers have really put these through the ringers. Crashes, water crossings, tip-overs. Oh, we even did a 50mph deer test unexpectedly a few years back...

Thanks, Micatech!! That does help... Another question. Can you put interior cross straps on the cases? And one more, will you show the SW MOtech racks on the bike.

This is what I want to do.... Remove the pilion and put a Touratech rack on. After this is done, will I need to use the top brackets you make to have the side cases sit flush with the rack?

Thanks for any help,
jim

Japako,
Check out this review vid by Twisted Throttle. Enjoy it while you can. It seems Micatech is no longer being sold by Twisted Throttle. All Micatech products disappeared off their website last week. I sent them an email asking about it today and the very polite reply was that I should contact Micatech directly for questions and ordering. Not sure what happened there. Still, good video that shows the bags well. This vid is actually the one that got me interested in the Micatech V2.

[Edit: Snooze you loose. Looks like the following vid has now been made "private" from Twisted Throttle, so none of us can access it anymore. Too bad. The vid was really informative.]

Micatech,
Thanks for the pics. Have you determined if we can bump up the discount a bit more if we get a larger number of buyers? I'm thinking that we could jack the number up significantly if we promote on some of the other major adventure motorcycle forums at the same time. This forum is relatively new and the bike not on the ground yet, but I'm sure we can rally more buyers if we shake the bushes elsewhere and open it up to other bike models. Is this group buy open for all bikes for which you make the V2 or only for the Super Tenere?

I'm on the fence between participating in the group buy and ordering now or waiting to order when the bike gets here (mine will probably be August arrival). I'm weighing if the $75 savings is worth buying 8 months earlier than I planned. If we can crank up the number of orders high enough to allow for a discount up closer to what would cover the shipping cost, then the scale really starts to tip (for me).

On a related note, I would love to pick them up to avoid the shipping cost all together, but I am a bit too far away. Does Micatech have any Western U.S. distribution centers that would make that an option? Being able to pick them up and avoid shipping costs (and adding in a long weekend ride) would probably get me into them with or without a discount.

Also interested to know how the SW Motech brackets mount. Do they use the passenger pegs?
This is how the SW-Motech brackets mount on the Super Tenere (Note these particular racks are set up for panniers other than Micatechs, so the various brackets, on the rack, will be different. But you can see how the racks attach):\

Here the quick locks are in place, but not the rack.

i'm thinking that profits are getting tighter, hence Micatech's pulling out from Twisted. Margins are the rule, here. If they can't make any money, we all lose. Time's are tight. Thing's aren't getting any cheaper, and will likely go up in price. Having said that, I want these panniers and will go for the group buy, once I receive the buyers proceeds from the sale of my V Strom, (which is imminent).

I have mixed feelings about selling my V Strom. Really love the bike. Hope the S10 works for me. I'm a pavement pounder, mainly, with some gravel/dirt road/shortcut stuff tossed in for fun. My DR takes up the slack...

Thanks for the pictures Chad! I'm guessing the new Givi mounts about the same, based on these pictures:

Thanks for the vid.. I like these and may buy, but laying out a grand that far in advance. :-\ I also don't like the racks using the passenger peg bracket for a mount. A I ride solo this is an item I wanted to strip.. Maybe they don't weigh that much?

From what I can remember, every bike I have owned that I have added rear panniers to, has used the passenger peg as part of the mounting system. If you are adding racks, etc - why worry about the 1/2 pound or so that the rear pegs weigh? We are talking a 575# bike!!!!

;)

I also ride solo and don't use the passenger pegs but I left 'em on my FJR since they also serve to mount the bags. The thing I REALLY like about the Yam bags and mounts (FJR and S10) is that when the bags are removed they don't leave behind a bunch of bracketry. I only mount the bags if I need 'em and like the bike to look normal when the bags are off. The standard Yam stuff accomplishes this. 8)

Actually, so do the SW-Motech brackets (above) that are used for the Micatech V2. The connection points are 90 degree quick-turn fasteners, so you can remove the racks in not much more time than removing the panniers. See the pics above with the racks removed but the brackets in place. That is what you can get to in just a minute or two. Also, watch the twisted throttle vid above. At minute 2:22, they mention the removable racks. the quick removal is yet another advantage of using the SW-Motech rack system as racks for the Micatech V2.

Be sure to send me your information so I can add you to the list. I know a greater discount would be nice, but the incentive has to be to there to produce the product and your right "margins are the rule." I have mixed feelings about selling my DL as well. I use it everyday and it has served me well.

OK, I am close to pulling the trigger on these.. I would like some pics from the rear with both the 8 and 10 and the 10 and 10
cases. Also from the front. If anybody could tell me the total width of the bike at the rear, that would be great.

The black with the silver doors and interior cross straps will be the ones. If you don't want to put the straps in,
just weld the small bracket in and I will do the straps. Just need to know the size now before I can order.

Yes, that would be the strap.. The Givi Trekkers also show the same kind of strap.
For the v2 it would not have to go to the bottom of the case because of the well.

this is how I set up my pelicans. It has worked flawlessly. As far as pelicans not cracking or leaking, well lets just say that's not always true.
