Thanks guys, pretty easy and small mod but the look is so much nicer IMO.

Rod, if you want to take the panels off and pay for the materials and shipping, I'll gladly do them for you. I've got more than 1/2 the can of primer left but will need another can of the coating. Depending on shipping, I'd say $20-30 would do it. It's a pretty easy job, the coating goes on better than non-textured paint so it's pretty hard to screw it up.. trust me, I would have done THAT the 1st try if it was possible.

Re: Give Trekkers - Black Out

I'm going to wait and see how they look on the bike before I make any final decision. I have been using the Trekker trunk on the FJR for a while and did not have any objection to the look.

But, the all black does look nice!!!

Hello Friends: I'm from Argentina and this is my first post on this site. I have the same Givi luggage Trekker, I'm just looking forward to the new 1200 XT units, since in this country is restricted for import and value reaches the U$S 26,000. A little expensive, but all other brands of motorcycles are the same!.

About these bags were really like me but I have a caveat: I almost always going on a trip to Southern Argentina - Patagonia, where the sun and Earth are somewhat common, everyday all day I ask myself a question: The Dark not too hot or those black bags or what goes on inside?, you think?. Thanks for sharing. A Big greetings from Quilmes - Buenos Aires - Argentina.

The unit recently reached me in mid-September or October! Ugh, ugh, ugh !!!!!!

Thanks for posting the pics Joe!!!!! I still don't know what I will do on mine. It will be a few days before I can spend much time with the new bike.

Mellow,

I think you have greatly improved the looks of the Trekkers. How difficult was it to remove and reinstall the metal panels? Has anyone crash tested the Trekkers yet?

There are a bunch of little screws to remove inside and several larger ones. It takes some time and patience but it's not difficult, just tedious.

Oh, they are still plastic.. not sure how they would do in a crash.. probably would crack, not sure... but at the price would be replaceable without too much crying. ::025::

Update, rode in some cold rain and maybe even some sleet this weekend and the paint chipped.

So, I'm thinking painting these isn't a good idea, they are very exposed to the elements and rock chips. Powdercoated is probably the way to go but I'm too cheap for that so I'll scrape the rest of the pain off and go back to the base aluminum.

If you can find some black bumper paint that might work better. Or maybe spray on bed liner. I read somewhere aluminum needs a special prep for paint to stick very well?

The paint is used was bed liner and I did use self-etching primer which is supposed to the trick.

Once I get the rest of the paint off I'll just stick with the aluminum. I don't mind trying this once but not gonna go through the trouble over and over again.
