Awesome! You're in.

Everyone would be more than welcome to come - I was just thinking of a more local event for the folks on the east coast that might not be able to make the trip to Colorado.
Cool, well then the Iron Horse is the place to do it. I love staying there. I'm actually leaving for Franklin NC tomorrow afternoon for a few days of riding with the VFR guys.

Re: Ga/SE Tenere Rally??

We should look at dates in late September early October for some of the best weather. Plus we have Octoberfest in the mountains. Good campgroud in Suches, http://www.highvalleyresort.com/. They have cabins for those that don't like tents. Plus that is in the middle of tons of riding.

This sounds like a wonderful idea and I know some pretty good stuff in the area. Somebody with more time than me please put this together. Crawford's Campground (http://www.crawfordsattellico.com/) in Murphy, NC is another place to consider. I've been to several ADV events there and there is some great stuff in the area to ride.

The KLR guys just had their rally near there this past weekend. Supposedly theres some nice fire trails and stuff like that in that area.

I like the idea of Iron Horse, but Deals Gap is over done. It'd be really cool if we could do something different, but close enough to make it over there. Murphy is a good split between Suches and the Gap.

If we plan it around Labor Day (Sept 2) we'd give everyone a natural 3-day weekend. Might be crowded. Thoughts?

The more I think about it the more I think that it would be way overcrowded that weekend anyway.

So - Is the general consensus August or September?
You can get some pretty chilly nights in the mountains in October so I'd rather keep it closer to summer since I'll be in a tent.

Murphy? Suches? Iron Horse?
I like the idea of Murphy since it's right in the middle, but Iron Horse is a nice place.

Depending on the dates, I would seriously consider going to a SE rallye. It sounds like a great idea!

Re: Ga/SE Tenere Rally??

Looking at the calendar, the best weekends would be August 24-25, Sept 21-22, or Oct 12-13.

Avg temps in Murphy for Aug H-86, L-63; Sep H-80, L-56; Oct H-71, L-44

I still vote for August. It wont interfere with football season. ::008::

I would vote August as well. As to the location, I'm open but do agree that the Deals Gap is over done anyway. The other issue is that for those of us on the north side of Atlanta Deals Gap is an area that is easily done as a day ride. So of the area's discussed my vote would be Murphy. If the intent was to pull in more people from the east coast it might be worth looking at something a little further north. I have attended several sport-touring.net eastern rallies in Sparta, NC. Tons of great roads in that area and still not a bad ride from much of the east coast.

Re: Ga/SE Tenere Rally??

I can't attend August 24th weekend that's a Barber trackday weekend and so is sept 27th weekend. However I was planning on spending the whole week up in Suches Oct 14-18th anyway. Early to mid October weàther in N GA is usually pretty mild and very good camping weather. June is no good for me that's a talladega track weekend and July 3rd I have a 5 day trip on the tenere planned.

Even if I cannot attend I still plan to run the rally option across to the new owner of two wheels of Suches. I will report back his reply.

You have too many trackdays! -lol I think I'm the only person that did Barber and didn't fall in love with it.

I just think August weather will be really predictable. Most folks will be planning trips for Labor Day the next weekend so the mountains should be pretty quiet.

Let's do the August weekend. Murphy seems to be in the lead, too. Sparta is good, but Murphy is so central it has something for everyone.

Yes, you are the only one that did not fall in love with Barber after riding the track!
August 24-25 looks open on my calendar though it is the weekend after Indy MotoGP and I may not be over my hangover by then :D
Murphy works for me.

Y'all have fun I will be at Barber Motorsports park wringing that GSXR1000's neck that weekend. ::001::

My offer still stands and I will go forward to iron out a possible 2014 Tenere Rally in Suches, GA with my friend the owner of two wheels of suches. Only makes sense to have a GA/SE rally in GA which has IMO some of the finest mountain roads in the country. And that's coming from a native of Mississippi ;D. Georgia should have adopted me 20 years ago gosh knows I have rode all of their N GA roads in fact I probably know them better than the residents ::013::
