EDIT: We've decided on Aug 24-26.

So I just spent the weekend up at Deals Gap for the Southeastern V-strom Rally. There were only 20-30 riders there so it was rather small considering the amount of vstrom talk you hear.

But while I sat at my campfire I thought... Is there a Tenere Rally and I just havent heard of it? Especially in Georgia where it seems we have so many members. I searched the forum for "rally" and came up blank so I thought I'd throw it out there to see if there's any interest. We've got all summer to throw something together. Ride & Camp? Ride and Hotel?

Anybody?

If this has been posted and organized, forgive me.

I had a blast this weekend even though I was surrounded by stroms and rain...

Looks like you need to plan this. Where, When? It appears the Tenere owners tend to get on here quite a bit right after the purchase but then the login activity probably slows down like mine did. Wonder if there's a way to message all in the Dixie States???? Sounds good to me man. I'm in.

I'm not much when it comes to planning - but if there's interest and it takes my planning to make it happen, I'm up for the challenge.

Just need to get some more folks on board.

Camped up there 2 weeks ago, ready to go back!!! I would be very interested, just not on a major holiday w/e as it gets a little crazy up there when the roads fill up. Camping would be my choice. By the way, the pic you posted looks familiar... Iron Horse Lodge, by chance?

Yep! It was a really nice place, too. Very convenient to the Gap, Cherohala, and its right on 28 - which is just as good as the other 2 in my opinion.

If I'm in town, I'll try to make it out. My idea of roughing it however it a bad Holiday Inn. I do however have a large rolling hotel with a garage I can bring if the chosen campground takes fifth wheel RV's :)

Yeah, NC 28 from 143 to the Gap is incredible! Super-smooth asphalt, great sweepers and the views along Cheoah Lake are tough to beat. Going south of US-74 on 28, is good but asphalt is patched and tar snakes are everywhere. Take that for about 10 miles to Tellico Rd and follow it west to Wayah Rd. Fun stuff!

The beauty of Iron Horse is they have a lodge, RV parking, and primitive camping. Plus showers, towels, soap/shampoo/shitters. They should be able to accommodate everyone. Doing it at the Gap just seems like common sense. You're not going to find a better spot for riding unless we find a spot in N.Ga. which is fine with me too.

Is there one I don't know about this year? Or do you mean start planning now for next year? Did you mean SE or SW?

Has TwoWheelsOnly reopened or is that still a work in progress?

Re: Ga/SE Tenere Rally??

Not open yet, but here is their facebook page for more info. Looks like the name is being changed to Two Wheels of Suches
https://www.facebook.com/TwoWheelsofSuches?fref=ts

From that page -
For inquiring minds, here's an update on TWoS:
(1) No, unfortunately we're Not Officially Open yet, but are trying as hard as we can to get there. Lots of final details to handle, some of which are out of our control as far as timing.
(2) Campground will be open 7 days a wk. in season, season will be weather dependent. No reservations needed for camping. Just show up, sign in, and pitch a tent.
(3) Lodge rooms will be available via Reservation @ $55 per room for 1st bed, each additional bed will be $10 additional per room (no, we're not taking reservations yet as we don't have a firm opening date)
(4) Kitchen hours will be determined based on demand, expect it will be initially open Friday - Sunday. Menu will be fairly simple at first and we'll expand as we learn what guests would like & what we can realistically provide.
(5) Phone number & Website: actively working on both. Seems alternative phone provider got a little ahead of themselves saying they could provide phone service in Suches.
Thanks for your patience, support & excitement. Ride Safe!

Sure, I think it's a great idea ::012::

I would like to go back to Georgia. Deals Gap and Helen are two nice places.

Re: Ga/SE Tenere Rally??

Put me down for this. I go up that way all the time. Headed to Suches in a few days (May 25th) with the toy hauler, tenere and my GSXR750 for a week. I am camping at the Wildcat off 60 about 6 miles north of Suches. They have full RV hook ups there and are super nice people.

I am good friends with the new owner of Two Wheels of Suches. I will certainly be giving him some business when he opens.

You know what has to happen...

Use your hook ups with your buddy and make us the first Rally he hosts. We could plan it to coincide with his opening!

Not making any promises but I will run that by him this coming weekend. He is an adv bike owner, currently owns a nice BMW GS.

Any idea on a date(s) other than his opening? Shoot for a Fall 2013 rally? Early October? or just wait until 2014 some time?

Re: Ga/SE Tenere Rally??

Dates could be open to debate. I personally like mid-August to Early-September time frame. Its still warm but not blazing hot and the weather is a little more predictable.

If you guys think we need more time to prepare we could push it off to 2014 but I'd kinda like to do something this year if we can.

Your better to push it off until 2014, since there are over 70 of us meeting up for the annual get together in Ouray Colorado at the end of June.

Everyone would be more than welcome to come - I was just thinking of a more local event for the folks on the east coast that might not be able to make the trip to Colorado.
