Well, three Super Teneres showed for the 2012 FGT. ::012::
Left to right in the first photo below, me, Coastie (John) and Torque6988 (James), and James rode all the way in from Huntsville, Alabama to join us!
Some camped. Some, like me and my 17yo son who rode this event, went for the neat little cabins at base camp in Ocala.
In spite of on ‘n off threatening weather, we had some great rides out into the Ocala National Forest, did the famous Green Swamp Loop on Saturday and when the weather looked like it was going to be real bad Friday morning, we ducked into the Don Garlits Drag Racing and Classic Car Museum. Very cool place, if you’re ever in Ocala. We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to get Coastie out of there.
James, John and ride coordinator Gary (<rode an 86 Magna) at Garlits
The Super10s next to a hundred foot tall WWII era missile at a VFW out in the ONF. Could be a nuke, not sure.
By way of background, there’s a big section of ONF that's been used for live bombing practice since WWII. That’s not where we were in the photo above, but that’s sorta the history. The bombing track is fenced off ‘cuz there’s still supposed to be live bombs in there.
John at a fuel stop right before we entered Green Swamp.
My 17yo son Sam, James, John, and Gary.
James’ friend that tagged along.
We rode to Cedar Key out in the Gulf Scrub for lunch on Friday after the Garlits museum.
Sam, John, Dan (<Honda Interstate), and James on a break during the Green Swamp Loop.
John and James coming back from a quick trip down a sandy strip in the Swamp.
The S10s only needed one gas stop on Saturday. The others needed about three. Glad we found this place in the Swamp.
My son was in charge of keeping the camp fires burning back at home base.
This was the first big trip with the kid now that he’s on a decent sized bike. This is out in the ONF with his 2006 FZ6 I recently got him. He had a great time, although I think he drove everyone crazy.
Looking forward to 2013 or maybe a Florida Tenere gathering this summer.
