I just spent the last three days with some riding buddies covering 750 miles around the Ocala, Florida area scoping out a site and loops for our third annual winter Florida-Get-Together. Our local group holds this during the end of the week and weekend before President’s Day, so this year it’ll be Thursday-Sunday, February 16-19, 2012. The last two years it’s been down in Sebring, but we just needed some better roads and think Ocala is the better centralized location. Cedar Key, Sugar Loaf Mountain, Ozello Trail (Florida’s Dragon) and the Ocala National Forest…this area is going to be great.

This isn’t a huge deal. Last year we only had eight, but hope to grow this event each year. Principally asphalt riding as most will be on street bikes, but there are some gravel roads in the area and, of course, ONF has about any trail condition you can imagine (some parts have day fees).

Cabins at the campsite are small and sleep three, which includes a bunk bed. $50 a night…campsites are $25. Bath and showers are right next to the cabins.

Those things can show up about anywhere in Florida, but I doubt we’ll see any…maybe if we go out in the forest, but I’d be more worried about the creepy-crawlies out there than the gators.

btw…this event isn’t just for Florida guys. We’ve got one guy who shoots down from Maine on an early 80s Honda V4 Interceptor for this (trailers most of the way)…cool bike. I think it’s timed right when some in the north might have had enough of the winter.

It would be neat to get away a bit during the winter. We have thought about taking a couple weeks in AZ sometime, in which case I would be tempted to trailer my bike down.

Yeah like Burmese pythons. People think it's cool to own an exotic animal until it grows to cat and dog-munching size. It's OK if they turn them lose in regions that have definite seasons cause they'll die in the Winter. Florida is a problem because they're thriving and multiplying there.

Okay...looks like the FGT is on track. Sorry for the delay in getting the details out, but the lead guy dropped out due to a new job, but one of our other guys from bikerflorida and who lives in Wildwood stepped up to get it back on track.

The cabins/sites at the RV resort are now available to make reservations. The code is for reservations is FGT Motorcycle Group. Cabins are $49.95 a night and if we reserve seven, it will drop to $35 a night. The cabins are small but sleep three with one bed and bunk beds. The cabins have heaters. Tent sites are $18 a night. Make sure you tell them the group name so we can work on that discount. There are two hotels near the RV Resort and those are listed in the first post.

All other information in the first post still looks okay. I'll probably arrive late afternoon on Thursday.

If you’re going, post up once you’ve made reservations so I can relay the headcount information. More information may show up in the thread on bikerflorida HERE.

In addition to the rides, I’m hearing that we might build the Don Garlits Racing Museum into one of the Loops, plus a night ride out to watch the Sprint Cars at Ocala Micro Speedway. Of course, it's a laid back "Florida" event so you should feel free to do whatever you'd like.

Seems like we have more than our fair share of crawly things here. Haven’t seen one of those bad boyz, but I did once abandon a perfectly good Titleist that rolled into the armpit of an ten foot gator sunning on the fairway. Free drop...no penalty.

I'm all signed up. I asked if they had 7 cabins filled and if so I would grab the last cabin. The girl stated that all the cabins were filled for those days. I will be tent camping. I plan to be there Thursday mid afternoon. Cant wait. Hopefully the weather gods are nice to us!

I don't think our group has all the cabins. Last I knew, there was one guy looking for a cabin pardner. Glad to check if you'd like. Either way, if the weather goes real bad, we'll just make room in our cabin for ya.

Thanks bill, I'll be perfectly happy in a tent unless it gets super nasty out. This is going to be great! I'm excited! Guess I better go order a tank bag.

I’m aware of a couple guys coming in Friday night for the weekend, one from South Florida and another from Titusville, so yeah that works fine. I’m not sure otherwise what the ride plans are, but knowing the guys that are putting this together we’ll probably be pulling out maps each morning. If you know the area real good, that would probably be helpful. I’m betting that Saturday they’ll want to fit in the Ozello Trail over in Crystal River somehow though.

Junior and I will be rolling in Thursday afternoon a little after check in time at the resort. I’ll make sure I get both you guys my cell number before then.
