Take a look at the Bumont panniers....they may not be as sexy as the touratech but I bet they out perform them.

+one on the Saddleman seat, Beware.

The stock top box is too small, Just little larger and it could fit my helmet in it. The side boxes are OK.

That's goodti know...I have one on order.
If you are referring to the DS Bike Protection RAID toolbox... return it. Good idea but leaks water in where all your goodies are.

That doesn't bother me too much. I was just planning to keep the registration, insurance card, zip ties, bungee cord, etc in there since there is really no storage space under the seat on the ES. The paperwork would be in a sealed plastic bag anyway. Worst case, I can always use some silicone sealer on the inside to mitigate any leakage. In fact, I'll just do that prior to mounting it and leak test it in the sink.

Thanks for the heads up. I was considering one.
I might be the lucky one here, but mines been on months, in a fair amount of bad weather and never had a problem with waterproofness. I love mine... Suppose if there is a general sealing prob you could bag ya bits first before stowing in the box? Then again, it ain't cheap so one would expect it to do the job from the off I guess.

I have the Raid Tool box...same problem leaked and I ended up with rusted tools. If i decide to keep it on I'm gonna use it for things like straps and bungees.

One thing I sold was the OEM tank bag. Nothing really wrong with it just to big for my needs.

I had the Zega panniers on my GS. Wouldn't buy them again. Too easily bent out of square and leaked.

I thought Zega were great because you COULD bang them back into shape - just overly expensive.

So what are the perfect panniers??? Do they exist?

They are all perfect as long as they are big enough, you don't ride in the wet, and don't crash :D

I'll bite.

-ART slip on can from Europe. Cheap, and I got exactly what I paid for.
-Denali D2 lights. Bright, but fickle operation. I've had a set on the tenere, before I pulled them off and replaced with a rigid light. I've had crap out, relays etc. Twisted Throttle have been good with warranty, but to ship this crap back and forth between two countries is simply not worth it.
-Yamaha side panel protectors (the three stripe ones) crap glue that stayed on for a very short time. Not worth the money
-Corbin seats (front/back) way too hard for me
-Sargent v1 seat. I still use it, but with an airhawk r
-Heidenau k60. I found them sketchy in the wet, and my rear tire was out of round, right out of the factory. A pain to diagnose the problem.
-ACD skid plate. I love mine, but had to modify it to make fit. Yes I checked my stock exhaust, and that was not the issue. A bit of a pain to take on and off, but offers great protection. Compromise and all that...
-fork boots. The fact that I didn't install them the minute I got the bike. Could have saved me a fork seal replacement. On now, and I change them every 25 thou km or so, as they are cheap insurance
-WAsp works bracket. Well built, but not as easy to use as the madd stadd..again, it's still on the bike, but If I had the choice back then (late 2011) I would have gone for the MS bracket

I think my only regrets are the Fenda Extenda and SW Motec electric tank bag mount. Snapped off the rear of my front fender quite nicely when I bottomed the forks in Death Valley. Not really the fault of the product, just didn't play well with the Rumbux bash frame/skid plate. The powered tank bag mount for the City bag just couldn't maintain a solid connection after a few weeks on the bike. And listening/watching the Garmin mounted to the bag recycle start ups was maddening! When it worked, it was sweet. Just pop the bag off and walk into the hotel room with your tank bag and GPS all in one shot. Kept the GPS vibe free and right were I could poke it/see it well. (I should sell that GPS bracket for the City bag and maybe the old 2610 too)

I have the Zega Pros, but there were few options back in '11. I've been happy with the anodized silver versions. Lots of miles as they are always on, (plenty of rain too), only leak was due to catching some fabric or the cable in the lid when closing. Dropped several times, bent and bent back a divot at one of the mount areas once, otherwise no issues. Locks seemed a bit fiddly when I got them, but I've had zero issues with them in 80k miles, so I guess they do the job.

Eric - I have the City bag as well and originally ordered the powered mount. I think it was a post from you (more than a year ago) that finally convinced me to change to the unpowered one. Glad I went that way. The flaky connection would have driven me nuts as well. Somebody out there should engineer a better powered quick-release mounting system. It's a pretty cool setup if it works.

They have a new design out that uses a different latching method and is more supported. I have one, but have't used it since I converted my powered ring to a non-powered ring and just used a SAE plug for power to the GPS to get a solid power connection. At the time I got the new version, (they sent in gratis in response to my second complaint about the powered ring, and after they warranty replaced the first one), they mentioned that they were holding off on selling the new powered style until they got reports from EU users that it was actually holding up over time.

I have heard that the new style is more secure, but also not as quick and easy to separate for gas stops.

Only 2 that I can recall on my 2012 (PDP) :) bike. After riding 50 miles with a new Corbin seat, I had sore nuts from the rise in front of that seat. Sold it the next day. Cut a couple inches off of my Fenda Extenda after seeing how others had broken fenders when the FE caught on skid plates. Neither of those are on my 2014 (non PDP) bike.
