Short answer (IMHO)Its time I commented on this.....
I'm the culprit.....I made a bad choice...actually a couple of em....
I shouldve just advertised the guards like I always do when selling farkles.
I shouldve done a bit more reasearch on the cost to ship a large box from TX to NY (almost Canada)
Shipping costs have increased ..jus like other things lately.
I had offered the guards at what I felt was a very good price for some non damaged ones....compared to new prices & availability.
When I found out the tru cost to ship was gonna be almost double the amount I had orig found....I offered instead to split the cost $20 to buyer & $25 to me which was about the amount I had orig figured into the sale price.
(Slight differences in box sizes can make BIG differences in ship costs)
I shouldve jus cancelled the sale at that time to sell locally where shipping IS about $25 for that size box.
Instead...I was trying to give the buyer an option to complete the transaction... which...in this case ..was not a good decision.
Some background on me....
I am a retired parts salesman & for most of my career I have sold tractor/farm implement..auto...motorcycle & aircraft parts since 1972. I started selling motorcycle parts & accys/gear on my own around 2001 while still working a regular job. Local riders have brought me their stuff to sell when they didnt wanna go to the trouble of advertising it. I have had mostly positive remarks from those folks....& other buyers I have dealt with.
I usta put my stuff on ebay....until they got stupid...targeting large wharehouses instead of individual sellers.
If a poll tells me that my selling presence on this forum is not wanted...I will go away...
So far....I dont see that...& I hope my image isnt tarnished due to this mistake.

"Ass, grass, or gas . . . nobody rides for free". . . . The price of fuel and all, somebody is paying.
Got a similar notice from my trash service. New pricing until the cost of fuel drops. Here's something related to shipping charges to keep in mind. Some shippers have a fuel surcharge adder on their rates that adjusts monthly. So if you get a rate quote in one month and include shipping in your price then your item sells and ships the following month your shipping rate can change (either up or down).
I think this has been hashed over and rehashed enough today by Forum members with the consensus it was an unfortunate act, but understandable once all the facts were laid out. The would-be seller fessed up and evidently offered to split the higher shipping cost which you apparently rejected. [Content deleted - CW] I thought a moderator was going to pull the plug on this whole discussion after we got to the bottom of it all, but that evidently hasn't happened yet. Cycledelic Relic has been on here a long, long time and has sold many items to many members, including yours truly, and he ain't gonna get banned over this one little poop toss.My opinion (and the reason I started this thread) is that short of tragedy or extreme circumstances, there is no justification for reneging on a deal, and that it should be honored regardless of whether it turns out to be advantageous. I think this sort of thing has gotten out of hand on FB marketplace and I really don’t want it to see it spread to forums I use.
In this specific instance (as acknowledged) I think the general cost of shipping should have been better understood/checked prior to. If shipping is too high or unpredictable, then it’s easy to offer $XXX + shipping cost.
How many times have you guys:
A) Had someone say they’re coming to buy your item and then not show
B) Traveled to buy an item and find that the seller sold it since you last spoke & arranged the buy
C) Packed up an item only for the buyer to cancel when payment time comes
… these types of things happen to me frequently and it’s wasted more of my time than I care to think about.
Online, it’s very easy slap up an offer or agree to a deal and not think twice, but it’s highly inconsiderate (at the very least) to the other party to not honor it, regardless of whether it’s due to carelessness or underhanded reasons. Mostly, I find it’s due to people fact-checking after jumping into a deal rather than before.
I enjoy buying and selling on forums because, in general, people are knowledgeable and rarely careless in their buy/sell postings, and dishonest parties are usually thrown on the banned wagon quickly. I’d really like it to stay that way.
Never happened to me, but I know a few people that it has. All good reason why I don't. I have also heard where this kind of thing leads to a meet-up where the turd party is planning to rob the other party. Now, I would be acceptable to that kind of meeting. Of course it wouldn't have the results that the turds were hoping for.. . . . How many times have you guys:

Derogatory comments aimed at another member on the other hand...
My bad, I read "poll deleted" as meaning the whole discussion. As to "on the other hand ," it just seemed to me the OP had an attitude and had come back in after all the discussion and deliberation and was unwilling to accept what seemed to be the consensus of the group, hence my comment. I'm sorry that you found it unacceptable. I'll refrain from offering opinions in any commnts in the future. To me, it seemed the OP continued his derogatory diatribe after most responders appeared to dismiss his original complaint. I'll let it rest at this point, it's not worth the stress. Make a nice day.No problem with the discussion so not deleting the thread.

Frankly, my reply was mostly typed and ready to go when I started the thread and I’d just then gotten around to posting it. Didn’t want to lead with my opinion. My bad,I read
