Well I hope that it is sooner rather than later. I still have my ST1300 and will not sell it until the S10 is in hand. But late deliveries could be a hassle for folks who are planning their summer vacations around their new bike. Let's hope that the Yamaha folks are being conservative and we all get our bikes on time.

Ordered mine in mid-October. If it isn't here by mid-June, I'll ask for my deposit back. I am WITHOUT a bike!

Per Yamaha, the deposit is non-refundable - unless your dealer is somehow willing to cover it. Since orders are placed under your name, I doubt even the dealer can do much.

I'm guessing mid-June is still within reason, based on your order date.

I'll add to what markjenn posted above, as I did the PDP on my 04 FJR. I was in California at the time (not far from Cypress HQ!), and I ordered my FJR in March, and received it in August (somewhere around the middle of the month as I recall). There was a much shorter ordering window then, and what I would expect to be a smaller production run (just a guess on my part). Since I ordered my Super10 in mid-October (in Texas), I'm expecting a June delivery. In the meantime, I still have my 08 FJR.

Johnnail, I too am without a bike. Even though it is difficult, I will wait for this, as it is going to be a TOP Shelf Carnival Prize!!! Well, you get the point, but a whole lot better.

I haven't ordered yet and if I am not going to see the bike until August or later then I will probably just wait and buy next year. Why pay for a new bike and only get to ride it a month or two?

Most dealers are willing to do refunds despite Yamaha's "non-refundable" proclamations. Your agreement is technically between you and the dealer, not Yamaha, anyway so legally it probably doesn't matter what Yamaha corporate says. A dealer would have to be pretty hard-nosed to continue to hold a deposit on a bike that is way late.

But it would be tough to wait 8+ months for a bike and cancel an order with a week or two to go - that strikes me as "cutting off your nose in spite of your face."

PDPs will always be an exercise in patience. You're setting yourself up for a lot of stomach acid if you're going to go ballistic with any delay. I actually like it in an odd way - the anticipation is part of the appeal. You learn everything about a machine even before you take delivery. And many of us use the PDP to get a good fly-ride deal - there is nothing like spending the first week or two "honeymoon" phase of bike ownership out on the open road. And it gets the awkward break-in period out of the way in a day or three.

That is technically correct, but once your dealer places your order, he will be getting a bike delivered to him that he will have to pay for.

Hearing about some of the possible delivery dates may slow down my "farkle", acquisition calendar a bit. Most of the stuff I'm planning on buying is pretty much "off the shelf", anyway, and should be able to get fairly quick delivery on. Might not be such a bad thing, as I still have questions about some of the stuff, anyway. I'll be shipping my V Strom to its new owner within the next couple of weeks.

Thankfully, I still have my trusty DR 650, so I won't be "Jonesing", to go for a motorcycle ride, at least.

Well, I placed my deposit two weeks ago, so guess I'm late to the party. :p

If that means I'm in the back of the line, oh well. Too hot to ride in summer for me, plus I get to let the rest of you all sort thru the aftermarket parts and test them out.

Because next year, I expect the price to go up--a lot!

One thing for sure - they will not go down and I don't think future buyers will see the discounting that we have seen during the initial PDP. If a dealer has ordered one for stock, I'm thinking he will be asking MSRP to help recover his cost.

Time will tell and I'm just glad I ordered one when I did!
;D

I agree, Rod, especially about the discounts you are seeing on pre order models. The dealer has no risk and no investment with pre ordered bikes, as he has the down payment and the bikes will be sold as soon as they arrive.. If he has to order thru normal routes for the 2013 models, he has an investment that is costing him as it sits on the floor.

Also remember that these are 2012 models, so even if one doesn't arrive until August 2011, that is still early for a following year model.

I actually went down and pushed the order button today.
Now comes the tough part. Waiting and trying to decide if the 800 will hang around or go up on the block. I doubt the wait for the S10 will be anything like those poor bastiges went through waiting for the 800GS.

The thread that was mentioned from ADVRider has a good explanation as to why we will most likely see the bike in late May/early June so I will probably go ahead and order. As far as the bike being an early '12 versus a late '11 that is irrelevent to me. I couldn't care less what model year they are naming it. The absolute worst case scenario for me would be for this bike to show up in September just as Honda announces the Cross tourer is coming here.

Ok, I see your concern Hoosier. I wonder what will happen if your S10 shows up in May or June and Honda announces the Crosstourer in Sept, as they well might.

I am sure that Yamaha intends for the first units to arrive in May, but we will not be sure of that until we see them at our dealers. Reminds me of the first year ST1300's for the USA. I rode one for two days in early June 2002 as part of the Press Intro at American Honda. On day 1, I was sold and called my dealer to tell him I wanted the first ABS that he could get. American Honda intended for those 2003 model units to be released by July or August 2002. They did arrive in the US by then, but were held up in warehouses as Honda decided to make a change to the cover for the oil sump. I got the first one my dealer received, but it wasn't until the end of November. Salesmen say that a bike isn't sold until you see it being ridden down the street and as customers we will know when they are here when we see them arrive. :)

I just got off the phone with my local Yamaha dealer and he said that as long as your deposit is in by March 31 you'll receive the bike by May, or even a little earlier. He also said that if you don't make that deadline it could be late fall of 2011 to early spring of 2012. He said this is all the area rep has told him so far.

That's what he said-unvarnished and unembellished. If he proves to be wrong don't shoot me. O:)
