When I spoke to Yamaha customer care today I was told production won't begin until April.
After this bike I can say that I probably won't go for a PDP again. Not because I'm mad, or feel I made a mistake, or feel misled. My personality is just not suited to making a big ticket purchase with an open ended, uncertain expectation of when I might receive said item. That said, I'm going to stick with it because I really want this bike. Nevertheless, I think Yamaha could have been more forthcoming, by providing dealers with a general timeline of deliveries, based on when a customer's order is placed.
Others may say that this isn't possible or site past examples from prior PDP programs as a rationale for why one shouldn't be surprised about late delivery schedules. That level of resolve, confidence in your decision and patience is probably not suited to everyone. My wife, for example, thinks I'm a bit of a nutter for having driven 5 hours to see the bike for 30 minutes, only to turn around and drive another 5 to get home. Similarly, she probably thought I was even crazier to put $500 down on, what is essentially ether, with an open ended promise that the bike will show up eventually. I told her that the guys on this forum (great as you all are ) whipped me into a frenzy and made me do it.
Many of you may remember in my intro that I'm a returning rider after 12, or so, years away. As such, one of the biggest questions I had to ask myself was, "why do you wan't to do this after so many years?" I answered that question to my satisfaction and moved to the next obstacle. Cleared that one and moved to the next one and so on.... The last hurdle was, could I pull the trigger on the PDP for the Tenere? Somewhat by happenstance, upon joining this forum and making my deposit, I found myself amongst a group of folks with with a level of passion for riding that is beyond my limited scope to appreciate...yet. The Tenere (can't call it S10, sorry) is my entree into that world, and though the delivery date issue is a setback for me, I'm sticking to my decision.
Sorry if this is too much information.
