We checked the dealer system (YDS) today and all 3 bikes we ordered on Day 1, Sept 1, 2010 are still showing Nov delivery.

Dropped by the dealer today on the way home from a job, I see I have a new delivery date of November 30th. Just in time for Christmas!

I wonder if I can find one of those ski things for the front wheel and some chains/studs for the rear....... 8)

Guys, I really feel a lot of compassion for you in the US having to wait it out for so long. In South Africa you can just walk into the dealership and drive out with your new bike within a few minutes even. Best will be to give the dealership a halfday notice because then they can get the registration and license ready for you, and you still have the bike on the same day. ;D ;D :D ;D ;D

Ever thought of buying the bike here in SA and ship it out. We pay R129 000 for a standard S10(no boxes, shields etc. fitted), which translates to about 20 800 USD! What do you pay in the US for the same bike?

Every US dealer's YDS went from various delivery dates of June, July, Aug, & Sept. to Nov. overnight. (Sounds like a default date to me.)
I would not trust the YDS at this point (expect it to be updated soon after 5/31/11) and the only official letter states deliveries expected to be "finished" by Nov 30th.

Yamaha Canada is talking deliveries in July I think? Are they really going to send a freighter over here and only deliver Canadian bikes?
I don't believe there is any great difference between Canadian & US bikes, so I doubt parts are an issue.

I seriously doubt every US bike ordered will be delivered soley in the month of November. That does not seem logical.

Yamaha does not need a whole ship to ship bikes.. :) What few they have going to Canada, would be put in a shipping container, or containers.. That is pretty much how most container shipping is done.

My thinking is it would be more cost effecient to ship multiple containers than just a few. Once they unload in Vancouver they could head down the coast and stop at the US port of call. (with MY bike ;D)

Because of the delays, Yamaha will be giving people in the PDP their motorcycles for free

I think there is a lot of validity to this thought. I'm still thinking deliveries in the US will be starting at or shortly after the CDN deliveries.

Just my .02

I totally agree with you Rod.

And for all the naysayer's there is nothing wrong with some POSITIVE thinking here in this forum :)

I, too, believe that the Nov date is only a "worst case scenario"

I'm thinking that my scoot will be in my hands in early August...maybe before.

I'm not banking on that - mind you - but just a gut feeling.

Managing Customer Expectations... simple as that... give a date you know you can hit so the customer will be either satisfied you did what you said you would or excited if you deliver earlier - pretty smart.

Yeah, that's right. Setup a goal that can be met instead of setting yourself up for failure. Think the Japanese are a careful, thoughtful and conservative bunch. Never overstate a goal.

Just contacted my dealer that I ordered thru, to let him know I'm joining the majority of you crazies..... O0 and gonna hang in there till the arrival  -
he brought up the question at a sales meeting "is Nov a good date for delivery?" the answer was that Nov is a worse case date and they are hoping for sooner
so I'll keep my finger crossed :) .
He also mentioned he had one PDP canx, and ordered some for the shop - so you can still get in on the purchase of one of these fine machines.
Stadium Yamaha in Dallas TX is the shop and his name is Jason Harshman 972-445-0825.
Tell em Chris sent ya
Take care all - got go ride - (at least I put off the sale of my RT till the ST arrives)

This news makes it sound dim for the near future with bikes from Japan. Our dealers are going to have a hard time. I hope they make it past the tuff times due to Japans problems.

I buy aftermarket stuff from my dealer when ever possible. Yamaha has a great aftermarket line. My dealer for the most part makes me deals that match internet plus shipping and if I have a problem with any order he takes care of it. These guys need our business and if we don't give it to them, then how are we going to Purchase a bike or part from them if they do not exist?

Try to get a deal going with one of your local dealers. It pays off for you and the dealer.

i hope most others out there searching for bikes (besides the Super Tenere) can be patient instead of getting mad at an OEM manufacturer.
