I went to my local yamaha dealer today may 3rd and he said that he couldn't take a deposit because I was past the order cut off date, but he did put my name on a list because he said the delivery date has been pushed back to november and he thinks that one of the people who put down a $500 deposit will back out because of the november delivery date. I called another local yamaha dealer and he said he could still take an order with a $500 non refundable deposit and said I would get the bike in september. Who do you think is giving me correct information.

Neither - since no dealer knows for sure when the SuperT will be delivered. BUT, the first dealer is closer to what will most likely be the case.............

The second dealer may be selling you one of "His" PDP's.
But do not trust any "Delivery" Dates

I just left a deposit with my local dealer and it is refundable and I was told the delivery date should be sometime after Nov.1. The dealership had ordered two Super Teneres, one by a customer and one by the shop. I was told by another dealer that March 31 was the deadline for a pre-delivery order and if I wanted to place an order I would have to wait until November to place an order for a 2013 ST.

Yo, Limey. Easiest thing is to ask your dealer to scan it into his computer and then email it to you as an attachment or whatever. Then you can post the attachment to the forum, like a picture. R

Thanks for attaching this letter.

It is interesting that this letter differs quite significantly from the US letters, both with respect to the actual delivery dates and with respect to how they are handling the deposit refunds.

I understand that different markets may have circumstances that require different delivery dates, so while I'm not particularly pleased that US deliveries are scheduled later than Canadian deliveries, it is understandable. What I'm less understanding about is how Canadian buyers are being given both start and end dates while US buyers are only given an end date. Further, the way deposits are being handled is much more generous for Canadians. If you're a Canadian buyer, you get an additional $100 gift certificate even if you cancel between now and May 31 and further, they're guaranteeing an end date of Aug 31 with a no-hassle refund of deposit and the $100 gift if they don't meet their guarantee. This lets buyers stay the course with no risk whatsoever. US buyers are not getting the freebie and are being given a hard deadline to withdraw by May 31 or risk (theoretically) losing their deposit for as long as it takes with no guarantee of any delivery date whatsoever.

The way this is being handled for Canada is the way it should be handled for the US. Sorry, but I find the US importer stance on this to be bordering on arrogant.

I want to emphasize that how this is being handled by different importers has NOTHING to do with the events in Japan - these are decisions being made by marketing executives in Toronto and Cypress, pulling down their $200K salaries regardless of events in Japan.

The Canadian bikes also come with a longer warranty, a free "oil change kit" and I believe some accessory money (I have the brochure from the Toronto show so I will confirm tonight). This being said, the MSRP is $16,499 CAD ($17,100 USD) so nothing is "free".

Well done, Limey. You got 'er. Don't feel badly. We all have our "duh" moments. I've certainly had my share, and they are increasing with astounding frequency. The young folks are really good with this computer stuff. Brings to mind ..... I digress ... brings to mind a Barney Miller show lo these many years ago when the black detective was talking to the young, street smart punk with pockets full of cash. Ron Glass, who played the detective, said .... "yeah, but I've got something you'll never have ........ CREDIT !!"

I guess he showed him. Thanks for posting the letter. My dealer says July. R

In Canada, the EDP window for ordering a bike was from early Dec 2010 till the end of April 2011.

It was in December 2010 at the Toronto Motorcycle show.

So let me get this straight in my mind, I ordered long before anybody in Canada, everyone in Canada will get theirs in July along with a $100 cert., I will get mine in Nov. which means it won't get ridden until March of next year.

Am I the only one that sees a problem here?

Just to be clear, you have to cancel your order or Yamaha fail to deliver by Aug to get the $100. If you stay in and get your bike this summer, no $100.

And Yamaha never promised to deliver bikes ACROSS DIFFERENT MARKETS in priority order. This pretty much goes without saying - they delivered bikes in June of 2010 in Europe for example. Different markets require different engineering changes and fit into production schedules differently, so things will never be totally uniform.

But....yes, I think there is a problem with the inequity in the way they're handling this, at least with some customers. The markets with the longest delays should get at least as generous an offer as those suffering only minor delays. Yamaha Japan has little control over how the importers handle these things and I think Cypress is being remarkably callous and non-communicative.

Don't know if this this theory has already come up, but wouldn't surprise me if lowest profit margin market for Yamaha is US. Also, no idea how US volumes compare to other markets. Simply put, money talks.
