Don't know if this this theory has already come up, but wouldn't surprise me if lowest profit margin market for Yamaha is US. Also, no idea how US volumes compare to other markets. Simply put, money talks.
Definitely a possibility. Given the Canadian delivery schedule, I'm now more skeptical that the reason for the US delay is strictly technical/logistics. Of course, we may learn tomorrow that US bikes are going to start flowing this summer. Just wish Cypress was more forthcoming.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Canadian bikes are more like the European bikes. If they are; component availability may be less scarce than the American versions.

Besides you know how polite Canadians are, they deserve a break don't they? :D ;D

Yes I agree the communication from Yamaha USA has been lackluster

Just got this from my dealer today:

"Good News And Good News! I got you swapped to black! Also Ship date is showing August!"

Not holding my breath but can anyone confirm the ship date thing?

I ordered march 29th and just did a color swap. He knew the delivery date was Nov but, according to him, it is now Aug.

Sounds fishy to me, but if it's true I ordered black as well. Where are you from?

Anybody want to venture what the differences are between a European model and one slated for North America?
The majority of parts for these bikes must surely be the same despite the countries they are headed to.

I know US bikes will have a amber reflector on the front and a red reflector on the rear. Will Canadian models?
Are we certain US bikes won't come with imobilizers?
Is a European muffler different from a US model?
Do US models have vapor recovery (charcoal canisters)?
What are the likely differences between these bikes? (Let's leave out the obvious like color)

from experience, US and CAN models in cars and other vehicles are often, with a few minor exceptions like color, identical as the DOT and Transport Canada requirements are pretty much following the same safety specs. The daytime running light for cars and motos is to be on all the time here, not sure south of the border. The dimension and location of the turn signals, reflectors and anti-pollution devices are different in European markets, not for the North American one. The speedometer is in KM/Hr in Canada but the Ténéré has a digital display screen that can also show the speed in miles per hr when programming the computer. Safety labels do need to be bilingual here so in retrospective, both US and CDN bikes will be 99.5% identical...

the presence of an immobilizator device on Canadian or US bikes (not sure who gets it) could explain the delivery date difference as this is likely related to the batch of bikes being produced during a period at the factory.

This has probably been mentioned elsewhere but on the Yamaha USA website it lists deliveries starting in June (instead of May).

Doesn't sound right to me. I just talked to my dealer yesterday as well and had him bring the order statius up on the computer screen while I was sitting there in his office. It was still showing November. :(

Well, it may be the case. I suspect that November was their drop dead very latest possible end of the world worst case scenario done forever latest date. They wouldn't want to get hopes up again. Dealer info is probably intended just for dealers, and would reflect an updated delivery date if things were looking better than first expected. You just never know. It could happen. I'm pulling for you. Of course, if I had any pull at all, it wouldn't be SNOWING here right now. R

I am really confused, I checked the web site just now and it says June. I thought it was an error when I saw that a week ago, just a overlooked update.

the specs sheet has had June as the delivery date since sometime right after the earthquake. The initial estimate of the delay was only about a month until they determined the extent of the supply issues coming from the north. I don't think that they're too worried about changing the verbiage on the spec sheet since they sent out personal letters to all.
