I recently replaced mine at about 27,000km. I needed to do it for peace of mind as I’ve read several horror stories about people who’ve not changed it for whatever reason & ended up with a destroyed motor.

Quick question , bikes in for valves , new tyres. Valve’s 6 out of 8 need shims , there on 7-10 days no probs. With the cct is it just that and not the chain ? I’m thinking of getting it changed (26500 miles) cct is about £250 for the part but whilst it’s in and apart I’m thinking change it, sound like the right thing to do ?

I wouldn’t even consider changing the chain. If yours is a gen1 bike, makes sense to change to a newer CCT, if it’s a gen2, I’d leave it be at that mileage.

Thanks , bikes a gen1 , 2011. Kinda glad as the chain sounded like a lot more work. Think I’ll swop out the tensioner.

I'm with Boris on this. I don't have the service manual memorized, but I don't think there's any specified maintenance interval for the cam chain. And since they want you to change your brake lines every four years, I'm pretty certain Yamaha would recommend a cam chain replacement if they even remotely thought it was necessary.

I've got a GEN1 2012 and it already had the updated CCT installed by the previous owner. However, during a recent valve check, I could NOT get the CCT back together (retracted) so I installed a Graves Manual CCT which is a very nice unit. So, to the OP, upgrade your CCT if you still have your original unit (GEN2 unit or a Manual CCT).
Regards,
Mr. BR

Or throw a MCCT in there (GRAVES) and never need to buy another again........ Every 25K or so miles you add a touch of "clock wise tighten".... Takes about 5 min every 25-30K miles...

Just an idea...

Excellent idea.
I have a gen 1 bike and it only has 30,000km on it but I made sure to swap out the tensioner for a better breed.
The chain will last for hundreds of thousands of miles and rarely need changing (except on things like thumpers where the pulse of the motor can tend to stretch them)

It was in the recommendation of people in here that saw me hunt down a Graves CCT. Definitely don’t regret it.

Has anyone heard of the updated OEM cct failing? I wonder if it’ll give a rattle warning before it grenades

I think I remember one guy on here reporting that the CCT on his 2014 failed (EricV pops into my head, but I definitely could be wrong about that), but that one instance is the only one I can recall. And the upgraded one that was installed on the 2014 models was upgraded again at some point afterwards, so the original upgrade isn't being installed any more. The one I had installed on my bike back in September 2021 was the third version of the CCT, with part number 2BS-12210-01.

On the other hand, the chain is unbelievably cheap and you can buy a new chain for less than a good synthetic oil change, so if it makes you feel good, replace it.
