Emission control failure. :D
Ahhh shit, now the EPA's going get all pissed at BMW and make them install fire suppression equipment on all new bikes. I wonder if they'll have recall on existing models?

Kinda reminds me of the poor inmate here that had their ST catch fire and destroyed because of the "hard Start" issue, sad really. But hey, shit happens.

Me, I'm not a bit concerned, my favorite Starbucks is next to a fire station and my whale foreskin riding suit is fire proof! ::025:: ::26::

Every now and then somebody asks me what kind of fire extinguisher to carry in their car.

Really?

If there's any kind of flame at all, it's time to hit the brakes and leave, as that's the instant that the car (or bike) belongs to the insurance company.

Depends, I have been involved in three vehicle fires. First was a friends old scout, we were filling up and the gas blew back, ran down the side onto the exhaust, poof, extinguisher and she was out. Not before it scared the hell out of everyone :))

I helped a guy put out a engine fire in his car once by simply smothering it, I do not know the details, but he was pulled over using a broom to try and get it out ::010:: I used blanket smothered that bad boy.

I had one just a couple of years ago myself on my old power wagon, had I not had a extinguisher available in a nearby Semi I would have lost the truck. Instead I just had to replace some wiring and it was good to go.

I do agree it is not worth risking your life as interior fires can be flat out scary fast, however everything I own has a extinguisher in it, most always have with exception to a couple vehicles here and there :)

As to this thread ::012:: Hilarious

BMW was quick to point out that the final drive did not fail.
Nope, not a final drive failure, broken spoke/failed wheel, or CCT failure.... could be a hard start issue, nah probably not.
Perhaps the heat shield on the nose cone failed upon reentry of this rocket. ::025:: ::26::

This might answer the question asked on this site..."should I buy a BMW?"

Perhaps, if they believes "it must be true I saw it on the internet"! If They're a more objective thinker, they'll take a test ride then decide. Have ya seen Donk's review?

Did ya catch the thread here about the ST that burned to the ground due to a hard start issue, or the engine failures related to the CCT? Any word yet that the hard start issue has been resolved here?

The point is none of them are perfect, pick the one that brings ya more smiles per mile.

The Panniers are at least holding up to standards! ::003::

Blame it on the Beak!

Carl Beakermann BMW design engineer

The insurance kickback should be able to pay for a Tenere like JaimeV had!! ::013::
All poking aside, I wouldn't want to walk out and see this going on in the parking lot with my bike!

Seems like if you just let it burn up there would be less mess to clean up later.
Like a Corvette? ;D
I remember years ago, well many decades.
My neighbor around the corner from my Parents had this hot Corvette, the guy would always be pumping the gas with side headers middle of the night coming home from the bars, a bit of a drunk Jack Ass.
One afternoon his Fiberglass wonder caught fire coming off a main road he got out but the thing got so hot that it ignited his Magnesium rims.
The fire department gave up after about two minutes and sat and watched it melt into a burning glob, morphing into the pavement.
We sat on our dirt bikes along side the Orange groves amazed at the bright glow those Magnesium rims produced!
