Has anyone else seen the new commercial for the GS? I saw it for the first time last night. They did a great job with it. As I recall it is all off road with a water crossing and camping. It's a pretty good picture of adventure touring.

A lot of editing to account for the arrogance, issues, and breakdowns went in to the making of that I have no doubt.

Geez, I crack myself up!!!!

You definitely had a lemon, I remember from your BMWST.com posts. Though I never had any issues with any of mine, I am glad I went with the S10.

BMW is selling the "lifestyle" and counting on that pitch to sell their adventure touring bikes... much the same was that Harley sells their bikes, thru the lifestyle pitch, and no "copy" will ever equal the "real thing".

They can't compete on price, or quality, so what's left? image and more and more electronic gizmos.. ::)

Yamaha should have run a nearly identical commercial right after the BMW one with the Tenere rider riding off as the the BMW rider stood looking befuddled at his bike with a caption, "The best part of the adventure is not getting stranded". ;)

You got that right. The left side handlebar switch looks like a Formula One steering wheel.

As I recall
Speaking of recalls, I think the new GS is up to three already. ::017:: BMW is still keeping silent on the cause of Kevin Ash's crash although the latest recall involves sending a special tool to dealers to adjust the forks.

So what I like about it is, it is very positive for the entire industry at a time when things are very tough business wise.

It looks like it was towed to variuos locations.
That's the new optional ultrasonic cleaning device. Amazing stuff. It is activated by another button on the switch bars.

Next year it will be seven way adjustable.

YAMAHA needs to do the same add but with a dirty bike, with the tag line "For people without support vehicles".

I always wondered what would happen if YAMAZUKONDAKI charged an extra 40% on the bikes and spent that on advertising.

I think they edited out the two recalls it had to go back for as well.

What am I waiting for

Ten Years

The last model was in production for 9 years and at the end of that time still had a fragile Final Drive, a Shaft Drive that could snap and send you bouncing down the road, a fuel pump controller that may die as your in the outside lane of a Motorway, or half way through an overtaking manouvre, and occasional ABS Controller and Gearbox woes, plus if you get the Friday afternoon model it may decide to lob an exhaust valve down the right hand cylinder, Oh, and a dry clutch that overheats real easy in traffic and is about 15 days labour to change.

I have to admit though that they did seem to cure the EWS ring that stranded most of the first wave of bikes before they got out the dealers parking lot ::012::

That is different than the 30 second TV commercial. It is nothing but action. It's a whole lot better than that. It is a great ad for adventure touring.

I think it's pretty cool to have a commercial that puts a different spin on motorcycles than the typical HD, live to ride, Sons of Anarchy stuff you typically see.

Sure, they're selling a lifestyle or a fantasy, but that sells bikes(trucks and other suv's too). People work hard and the world provides plenty of worry, but many will buy an HD, BMW, Tenere, KLR etc. based on the fantasy that their bike may take them to far off remote places far from the stresses of real world.
