BMW 1200 GS 2013

While watching keep an eye out for the ramp and the tyre tracks from the trailer.
LOL

I like it...how it
a: was cleaner then clean in the middle of africa
b: they shielded it from the elements (the bus stop while raining) have to protect all the buttons
c: it was just parked there, presumably waiting for the recovery vehicle, or a replacement to show up ::002::

I have to post this on facebook for all my GS riding buddies, see if we can get them reiled up..
Usual responses are: oh yeah, wasn't there a recall for a tank o-ring, and your spokes can't stay in..rabble rabble!!!
::025:: ::025::

But in all seriousness..I don't like the attitude that comes with the bikes, either from the people selling them, or the people that drink the bmw kool aid.
When I was asking around in early 2010 about the tenere, the bmw boys knew (dealers) that it was coming. Oh my the slagging they gave the bike, without ever riding one.
Same goes for the owners, you're not going to say anything bad, about a bike that you just dropped $25 cdn on even if it's a pile. Hey that's what they all do.
I know a guy that bought a 2009 or 2010 GSA, first 3000 mi, he had warped disks (front), his electronic fuel injection gave up the ghost two states away from colorado, and...it took bmw
over 6 weeks to actually trouble shoot the problem, and give him the bike back.

So bring on the new one, can't wait for the new generation of kool aid drinkers spewing their religion at us.

I was troubled yesterday getting my S-10's gear shift lever adjusted just right. Swore once. This thread cheered me right up! ::012::

I want to ride one!
And since BMW's are rentable, I will ride one someday.

BMW's and Harley's.........no need to purchase them.
No need to worry about warranty. No need to worry about maintenance.

Legal to have 1 night stands!

It sits still exceedingly well. BMW..making the highest quality static displays in the world. View one today at your local Starbucks.
I rode last weekend and stopped at a Starbucks for a refresher on the way home. I had to joke that I was taking some GS's spot. I kill me. ;D

I have to admit I'm attracted to all the gizmos the bike has to offer like factory cruise control, ESA, intergrated heated grips and handle bar controls. I'm sure Yamaha will offer those things someday if the demand is high enough.

I saw the BMW commercial last night on the Discovery Channel. It's not a bad ad ( they run a similar one for their sport bikes). I think the ads portray the bikes in a way that's not true to life as the average rider won't be able to handle the bike in those conditions. Yes, its capable of traversing that type of terrain but with a very skilled rider. They are making it out like it a true off-road bike.

I just got my s10 about 6 weeks ago (4100 miles so far). I came from a vtx 1800; so I have been there and done that why didn't you get a Harley. Was happy with the bike. When I decided to change my style of riding to adv I looked at everything. BMW triumph KTM Yamaha suz and moto. They all look to be great bikes that will do whatever I ask of them. The reasons I got the Yamaha was dealer base and I just like it. I would ride any of them and they would all bring a smile. Maybe this thread title needs to be changed to GS bash. All adv bikes will be held up to bmw all cruisers will be held up to Harley. This is my point I don't care whos name is on it . I just want to have fun riding it. Bet I get some flogging but that's ok

While the integrated BMW heated grips look nice and neat, the Yamaha grip heaters are much hotter. Handlebar controls are convenient but can be distracting. ESA is nice, till it breaks or wears out and you're forking out $$$$$$. Part of the attraction of the S10 is that Yamaha didn't go overboard with the gadgets IMO.

That said, cruise would be nice and easy enough for Yamaha to add at little additional cost.

I met a guy 2 days ago whose non- rebuildable ESA shock failed at 34,000 miles (and just out of warranty, of course). Replacement is something like $2300. Makes an Ohlins sound cheap!

There's more "attitude" in your post and this entire thread then I've ever seen in any BMW owner. Pot > Kettle > Black.

that's my bmw experience, might not speak for everyone, but the sales pitch at the dealer turned me off the bike.

I've spoken highly of the BMW almost exclusively. Shown it great respect. Deservedly so. But I'm not sure you can say "There's more "attitude" in your post and this entire thread then I've ever seen in any BMW owner"

I've visited some BMW threads on ADV. And while you won't see a single post from me picking their scabs, there are a few BMW dudes that have serious attitude. Especially towards any Tenere owner.

But for the most part, I get your point.

I'm always amazed at how people in forums like these tend to take an adversarial attitude toward the competition. I see the same thing in my ford pickup forum where everyone is a Chevy hater. I owned two Chevy pickups before I bought my Ford last year and i have much respect for the product. It's just that when it came time for me to make a purchase i felt that the Ford offered what was right for me at the time.

It's the same thing here. I seriously considered BMW for a long time. When it came time to buy and I did my research I found the S10 to be everything I wanted and for the right price. I still have lots of respect for the Beemers but I love my Tenere.

Forums just seem to bring out a gang mentality where it always has to be us vs. them. I understand it, I'm just not going to bash someone else's product simply because I didn't choose that way.

It's fine to debate the merits of the bike back and forth, but this stereotyping of BMW owners as snobby and "drinking the kool-aid" is juvenile.

Back to the subject, I like these new BMW ads and I think they speak positively about motorcycling in general and, for the particular ad in question, about adventure touring. They should sell a few S10's when a potential buyer decides they want a GS-type bike, does the research, and finds the Yamaha better fits their needs. They're a welcome break from the "come into your Yamaha dealer to take advantage of 2.9% financing" ads that Yamaha carpet bombs on the motorhead channels.

Mark, it's not meant to be serious or a 'gang mentality'
As I said, it's my experience with the people that I had dealings with.

Are they non- rebuildable or just a pain to rebuild? And as for the older model ESA stuff, I think a non adjustable Ohlins was better anyway.

The new stuff of course is amazing and without peer at the moment, of course but time will tell.
