Did you solve the front end shudder you had in Bixby.

I'm pretty sure it is the tire and the roads we were riding on. The bike rode fine on the way home. I have a Conti Trail Attack front that I'll put on to make sure, but checked the forks and everything is good. Fredz was having the same problem and has the same tires. He just lowered the pressure to take care of it.

Thanks for asking.

Just done 3500 miles two up on my new Roadsmart 2's, they felt really confidence inspiring for the whole trip, grip was far more than my brain could handle and they stuck like glue regardless of how much I tried, certainly far more talented than I am.

Wear looks pretty good, they have done a totoal of about 3700, the original Tourance EXP was almost gone by that mileage, these are only about half worn - but have had the advantage of a couple of thousand miles in the Alps where the speeda are lower and they spend a lot more time on the edges, I expect in normal UK use they would wear faster - but considering this trip was two-up the rear has stood up better than expected going on past trips where a tyre would come home almost knackered.

For road use I would highly recommend these.

If you want to wear out a tire fast, drive on gravel. A better word may be sand paper! ::009::

I wiped out a few days ago, came over a hill and it had rained locally. Our gravel roads have no shortage of clay. I dumped the bike when the front tire failed to grip a .5 inch deep rut. I had lost some speed by then so it was under 20 km/hr. I jumped clear but something smacked my calf. (Ok maybe not clear enough) no real injuries and the Yam had no damage. ::015::

That's with a stock front tire.

This year I have been on the gravel very close to 50 percent of the time. So it's time to try the K60.

Looking forward to it! ::021::

I did not notice any difference in mpg from the EXPs to the K60s. That said, you commute on slow roads if you're getting 46 mpg. I tend to average more like 42, but we have 75 & 80 mph speed limits here. When I lived in OR, with 55 mph limits, I got great gas mileage. :D
Anyone any new findings on the mpg once you had the K60 mounted to your bike? I'm really curious!

Ok the K60's sound promising but what do they cost in fuel economy. I get a good 46mpg commuting to work and would like to continue to get close to that.
Oh, the quote left out the initial question. Here it is!

I've used the K-60s exclusively on my bike, and consistently get between 44 and 46 MPG commuting 120 miles/day. The commute is a mix of stop and go and 75+ mph indicated. Especially considering the life of the K-60s (always better than 23K miles), they are very worthwhile.

Best,

Chris!

Thanks :) Wow, obviously you've got quite some experience on these K60's. Back here in Holland they're not so popular I guess so have to see whether I can get them. Will try for sure, otherwise I'll go for the PR4 Trail for the front and regular in the back. Unfortunately no possibility to go offroad anywhere in the west of Holland so the PR4 will be fine for 99% of the time (commuting 120km a day).

Tnx for your reply!

Conti Trail Attack 2 front tire

Stock size is 110/80R-19

but

120/70R-19 is also available (I ran this size on my old BMW F800 GS and it worked great on that light bike)

Mainly ride on twisty pavement

Anyone have any experience with the 120 on the big Yamaha? Is it too front heavy to run the lower profile?

I wouldn't have thought the front rim was wide enough to 'safely' fit a 120/70 ?

I've got about 3,000km on my TKC80's and while I read on here that this is considered some kind of extreme off road tyre, Contenential market the tyres as a "Dual Sport tyre" for on and off road use and I agree.

My background is 17years of street and track riding, as a kid I had dirtbikes but that was just for mucking around in the back paddock so I have been riding all my life (35yo) but I feel most at home on the Tarmac, but I am starting to enjoy the off road more as I can play silly buggers and not have to worry about the highway patrol trying to spoil my fun.

So far my use of the TKC80's has been 50/50 on and off road and I think they are equally as capable in both situations. I happily throw them into corners on the asphalt and I have worn them to the very edge. Damp roads don't pose any problems and while I haven't ridden in torrential downpours with them I can't see how they would be a problem if a slick greasy road doesn't.

I ventured down some gravel roads on my VFR1200 a few times but found that it wasn't much fun when trying to take a corner and the bike sliding and under steer terribly, so I was a little nervous when starting out on my S10 off road but now I'm throwing it into corners almost s fast as I would do on asphalt as the TKC80's bite into pretty much any surface.

Glad to read your responses guys...thanks...when I posted I was only looking for input on handling, but I hadn't even thought about fender clearance or
rim fitment issues...

I'm running 110/90 Shinko 705's now and looks like there's plenty of fender clearance.

As for rim width, not sure where to find mfr's recommendations on max tire size...but agree that should be a consideration as well..

We've got a thread devoted to the new TKC70. Mine are coming up on their first thousand miles and I really like them so far. Virtually no wear showing, great in the rain and on twisty roads to the edge of the tread, and while not meant for real dirt, they've been surprising good in gravel and mud which is firmer than gumbo. I've not had them over 90 for sustained periods so can't say much about high-speed.

Like others, I have found that handling does change with small changes in pressure more so than with a lot of tires. Also, the profile is much more round than typical ADV tires and they almost feel like a V-shaped sport bike tire when starting to lean into a curve. It takes a day or so to get used to the fact that the bike is not as stable and more flickable, and that you need to countersteer once it is leaning over to keep it from going deeper.

The more flexible sidewalls are again like a sport bike feel and not the rock solid "never notice it" that you get with a Mitas, Heidenau, Tourance, or an Anakee. On the up-side, it lets these things follow pavement ripples and such much better than more dirt-oriented tires. On the downside, if you are used to one of those other tires I can understand why it'd be nerve-wracking. I'm wondering if it contributes to the wear people are seeing and am wondering how mine will last.
