Got the my Advmonster Model 60 LEDs installed with the dimmer. Great fast service from Advmonster! ::008:: I have it set for dim with low beam and full on with high beams. Installation fairly simple and all needed parts were included except for a 6 MM bold to tie the mount and light together. Here are some pictures of the results.

Normal Low beam:

Normal high beam:

and finally with the LED's and high beam turned on:

This is what it looks like coming at you from 60 yards away:

Have to remember to dim for oncoming traffic!

Hey Tippo. After reading how you used a LED Dimmer I decided to do the same thing with a Spector 6 inch LED bar. . . I got the output side done. . . But now Im stuck. On the ADV LED dimmer box, do I connect the input side to the headlight wires so the Spector LED light bar it only gets power when the lights are on?? And if so, which wires (color plz) and where did you connect them at ? The light is mounted and the bike is in pieces in the garage . . . HELP

John,

I have an early meeting this AM so I can't give you all the details (colors) right now. I got my wiring diagram from the ADVmonster vendor site on Advrider.com. There are over 2,000 posts there so start at the back.

I'll be back at you later today.

John,

I found some time. My dog only wanted a short walk this morning.

It sounds like you are a beginner at wiring projects. Nothing to be ashamed of, we were all beginners once. Forgive me if I am talking down to you.

I am not familiar with the Scepter light that you purchased. I don't know how much current it uses (or what size wires & fuse it needs). I purchased lights and a dimmer from Advmonster so it was pretty much plug and play.

DO NOT wire your Scepter light directly into your headlight wires. It might work just fine but it could leave you stranded with a dark bike on a dark, lonely road. Not acceptable. I don't want to think about what could happen if you went dark on a crowded freeway at night.

Most of us who have added electrical accessories to our bikes (I have aux lights, heated grips, heated jacket, outlet for pump/battery tender, radar detector, and loud horns) start with an aux fuse panel that isolates (to the extent possible) everything we've added from the bike's original systems.

At a minimum you need to take your power directly from the battery adding an in-line fuse and a relay that is triggered by a source of power that is only on when your key is on.

If you are following me, there are good threads here on aux fuse panels. Google can show you how to wire a relay. If this all is a bit over your head don't be too proud to find a mentor or hire a pro.

Better safe than sorry my mom used to say.

Jeff,

No offense taken. In fact, I appreciate your suggestion. Your mom sounds like a smart lady. Time to learn about aux fuse panels...

John.

OK - I too am a victim of a corroded circuit board on my Denali II's. Admittedly they've seen some tough conditions, including 5 days of salt air on the deck of the Stahlratte... but on the other hand, none of the OEM systems have given me any grief.

Since I'm in Ecuador the chances of getting a new harness in an affordable manner are about zero... so, is there someone out there who can tell me how to replace the control unit with a relay? Current setup has the lights switching between high/low power with the high beam switch. I'm guessing it won't be possible to do that any more?

I can't find info about how Wasp did his...

I used Wasp's idea of a simple relay ! Why a control unit? Sorry, but simple'r the better !! Had no issues with Solstice and I know a few other forum members who have 4 in a row and don't have any issues....and here in the UK, we ride more in the wet than in the dry.

A lot info here, thanks guys, allow me to get into this conversation and ask if there is any light that comes with dimmer and strobe/modulator?

My idea is to have a modulator either on headlights or on auxiliary.

Just found out - The company that sells the modulator claim the modulator only works with halogen bulbs but maybe there is some company out there who makes aux lights with strobe.

The main reason for me is to be seen in traffic, leaving in L.A. and driving constant at the 405 and 10 fwy.

Im tired of flashing my highlights on traffic!!!

ADV Monster has the option when you flash the bike highbeam the full bright of the aux comes alive.

The Clearwater are great to, having the option hooking up with the horn for full bright but they are way more expensive!

What Im not sure is if any of those aux lights are able to conect with the horn and with the bike high beams.

Take a look at the Skene controller I posted above. I went with the Alert feature, so it strobes the lights with a double tap on the horn button. Also, if you just lay on the horn, it switches the lights over to full intensity. I usually run the lights at 10 or 20%, so there is a noticeable difference whenever I activate the horn.

Fog Lamp / Spot light / Daytime running light ...???

So some help please .....

I am after some extra lights to put on my bike and have seen many examples of good and very bad crap that some people have fitting just because they think it looks 'Adventurey'.

I am after some extra lights to help be seen during the day and if they provide more light at night then thats a bonus.

I have seen a fw bikes with a strip light of LEDs mounted below the main lights which i like - anyone got them fitted if so where did you get them from ?
Any suggestions on other types that you have fited ? I don't have engine bars fitted.
How have you wired them into your bike , any dramas etc etc.

This is what I run:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6Inch-25W-CREE-Slim-Led-Spot-Flood-Light-Bar-Offroad-4-4-Atv-Motorcycle-Ute-4WD-/360999869860?hash=item540d44dda4

I have mine on the engine guard, however, if I didn't have that I would place it using the two mounting points on the headlight frame, very bright. I wired directly through a fused lead and a separate switch. Fit and finish is good and looks like it was made for the bike. I hardly ever ride at noght so for me it is was all about being seen. Another reason for going direct and separate switch is if I had an electrical failure of some kind, you never know right?

Re: Fog Lamp / Spot light / Daytime running light ...???

I ran a set of visionX.com Optimus Halo's using a Piaa mount brackets with a skene.com controller with good results. Had them setup to be at 30% with key on then 60% with a toggle switch and go full 100% on highbeam. Cyclops light is similar. I've since stepped up to a set of Erica lights from clearwaterlights.com HUGE price increase but light output is shockingly good...blindingly good actually.

The problem with buying anything from the US, is the shipping cost, couple that with some vendors inability to comprehend that someone may want to buy their product from outside of conus (I don't classify Canada as outside, sorry :-\ ), and then accept payment via a reputable source, well that just throws them for a loop. ::009::

It is hard to fault that price. Do you ride offf-road? How sturdy is this set-up? Thanks!
