I need to check with State Farm as it gets closer and see what they quote me. Has anyone checked All State? My son went with them on his R1 and they had the best rates of all the places he called.

First off, I'm in Central California, Modesto. The town motto is "Murder, Meth and Auto Theft". Many non-US citizen unlicensed/uninsured drivers. Also a fair share regular citizen unlicensed/uninsured drivers.

I currently have State Farm for Home/Auto and 1 bike. I tend to carry higher coverage amounts. I was quoted $67/month, $804/year for the Super Tenere. My old BMW F800GS was $58 per month and the WR250R is $22.

Total cost for State Farm for both bikes is $89/month or $1068/year.
Total cost for Allstate for both bikes was $209/month or $2169/year. ??? ??? ???

Wow!! Not sure I see a pattern here at all! Not sure why he found such a good deal with them. I will still check once I get my VIN.

Thanks for the input!

State Farm had to override my VIN system would not take it so she wrote it up on cc's and MSRP and XT1200Z.

$500 deductible
Full coverage not sure what the coverages are

$516.46 a year

Classified as a Dual Sport same as my DR650.

I am 48 good clean driving record, home owner, married, 820 credit score :)) been with State Farm for 22 years.

Not the best price but I was not to pissed off about it.

Ok - DONE!

I had an estimate last week from Geico - $580/yr for coverage that was the same as my Vee (just to make it easy to compare) Vee was $540. Now that I have a VIN I get them to quote - $977! And that's without any collision cover (I don't have any on the Vee cos it's not worth much).

Screw that.

Talked to Nationwide, and the same cover came to... $303. That's more like it. So I added Collision, reduced my deductible, and moved the Vee over, and the total now is LESS THAN THE VEE ALONE with Geico.

I feel like an idiot :-[ staying with Geico for so long. My only excuse is there are not many choices for MC insurance in DC - a lot of companies don't provide cover here - and last time I got quotes Geico was cheapest, and I hadn't shopped around for the last few years.

I just found Yamahas' VIN application with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and according to the VIN, specifically the 4th digit which is a 'D' for our bikes indicated that this bike is a 'Dual Purpose'. If this was a 'sport bike' the digit would be a 'R'.

So how can insurance companies say this is a sport bike when the NHTSA says otherwise?

Just curious.

Some underwriters classified the bike prior to our serial numbers. I really think they never saw the bike..
Maybe it was the Super or the 1200, or, and I really like this the best. They had their collective heads of their collective ass's..

Sadly, they can say anything they like. I have USAA, which farms the bikes out to Progressive. I too am waiting for a VIN. A while back, an Independant agent said since he is a rider himself, he uses Rider, which isn't available everywhere. I asked him the advantages, he told me Rider covers track days where others do not. I then asked Progressive specifically if I would be covered riding on dirt tracks/trails in the State Forest or private property, and they told me yes.
For those really using the off road aspect of this bike, you should probably check. Low price is one thing, but if they don't cover anything, who cares? You should specifically check to be sure you're covered on the type of riding you expect to actually do.

On the advcie of a S10 customer of mine, who is an independant insurance agent, I tried Nationwide. His experience is that they had good rates and excellent claim service. First I checked with my present ocmpany, State Farm and got a quote of $572. The quote from Nationwide was $296. And here is the best part, that also includes my 1998 Super Hawk! Incredible. I am now covered by Nationwide insurance

By the way, they gave me discounts for being a homeowner, for being an AMA member, and for completing a MSF safety course.

Just called for insurance quotes, since I had my VIN and full-coverage thru Costco/Ameriprise (actually written by Progressive for motorcycles) is $142/year full coverage. Of course having great credit rating, current MSF training, 35+ years of accident free riding helps.

I checked in with my State Farm agent today and got my policy in place. She could not come up with a final rate as the model/VIN, etc is not in their system yet. If, mine come back a lot more than my FJR, I will look into Nationwide as well.

Thanks for the tip!!!
