I talked to Geico the other day, they said they couldn't give me an exact quote until they get the VIN - but based on the preliminary info the S10 would be about $580/yr for the same coverage I have on my 2002 DL1000 - which costs $540 per year.

I said "how come my 9 yr old Vee is only $40 cheaper than the brand new S10?" Turns out the Super Tenere (at this point at least) is classified as a dual-sport, while the Vee is a "sport bike". WTF!!! I asked if he wasn't getting confused with the SV1000 - nope...

I'm not going to complain about the quote on the S10 - but have I been ripped off on the Vee all these years?

Wow you must live in a rough neighborhood. :D The Gecko gave me a guesstimate of $360/year. $1000 deductible. All the bells and whistles.

Foremost has the S10 classified as a performance bike with resulting very high rates. State Farm's estimate was more reasonable, but as stated, need a VIN for final quote.

When I had my Zuki M109 I was with American Modern Select and they gave me full coverage including 100% replacement value for the bike stolen or damaged and $3,000 for mods, helmet collision coverage, and transportation expense coverage. My annual was $234.00. Deductible was 250.00 and my limits were 250,000 BI each person, 500,000 BI each accident 100,000 property damage. Then 250,000/500,000 liability. I will go back with them when the time comes.

I got a quote from Progressive.... it was insanely high. Assuming they have it classed as a super bike! I will be doing some more quotes with various companies as soon as the VIN is available. I can see this thread being a valuable tool for us all to compare quotes. I know they might not all be apples to apples based on diff age, driving records, limits, deductables, etc.... but all in all it should give us an order of magnitude on the pricing.

Keep 'em coming!

I know I have my values set as high as Progressive has available. I have a $500 deductible and do not carry personal injury because I use my regular health insurance to cover that. I pay well below $200 a year for the Vee. I remember when I asked for a ballpark figure on the S10 that quote was $190 for the same coverage.

I'll also say I was very satisfied with Progressive when my wife totaled her Wee recently. The settlement was acceptable and the process was hassle free. Also did not raise my rates since I've been a customer for so many years.

I need to check with State Farm as it gets closer and see what they quote me. Has anyone checked All State? My son went with them on his R1 and they had the best rates of all the places he called.

I have it as well on everything (house/cars/bike/misc etc) and they offer so-so rates on my FJR.

I have State Farm for everything but the bikes. They were always triple the price or higher on any quote.

Just in case my dealer's claims they can get me an S10 aren't BS, I called for a quote. My current bikes are insured with Progressive so that's who I called. They don't have the S10 in their list, and I don't have a VIN, so they couldn't quote for reals. They want me to call back with a VIN, but the rep thought it would be around $500/year.

There's no purpose in comparing our quotes across our different locations - they will vary wildly.

The quotes will differ, but they will also show, which companies are totally out of the ball park. Only a DWI charge or multiple accidents, or the like, will show a huge swing. There are many of us in the same state, so we should get decent comparisons.

So I have to disagree. :D

Yep! For me it's not about finding out the exact dollar amount some one else paid, but about the comparison to what they had and how that company classifies the Tenere. For me, I have Progressive, I pay $230 a year for full coverage on a 03 VStrom 1000. When I called for a quote I used a Tenere VIN from one of the demo bikes and they told me $1,580 for the same coverage!! SO going by that, it seems Progressive considers this a sport bike.

My dealer told me that the VINs would be available to us once the bikes get to the main warehouse they will be delivered from. Lets all hope that is soon!!!

Yep, this is gonna be tough. Once the underwriters have classified the bike, it will be damn near impossible to change.
So far, Progressive and Foremost have them as sport bikes, even thought the Vin has them as Dual sport..

Until we get the REAL vin number, it will be just a guess. :)

You guys are skeering me with your insurance quotes.
Motorcycle insurance for me in Kentucky is usually pretty reasonable compared to what some states are.
In the last 10 yrs I have changed insurance providers from Dairyland to Foremost to Progressive.
Each of them tried to jack my rates at renewal time.

I found Dairyland to be about $110 more than Progressive on my last bike, so I went with Progressive. When it came time for renewal, they actually lowered my rate stating I was a good customer, etc. I also got some discounts for multiple vehicles and defensive driving training.
I'm sure a persons age and driving history all play a factor as well.

As far as the S10 being listed as a "sports bike", that's not what I was quoted by Progressive.
