Some new updates.....

* In addition to the confirmed Happy Trails fit, the raid toolbox with the standard mounts also works behind GIVI racks! It's a snug fit (and I think there's actually a bit more more door opening space than the photo shows), but works great behind the rack.

Any questions, please let me know.

Thanks!

Jason

Jason,

What's going on with the front mount in that picture? Certainly doesn't look like the standard mounting bracketry I got with mine?

I'm still evaluating options to get this to work with my quick release Givi racks.

Hi AC - here's a couple of pictures to give you an idea how the toolbox sits using the OEM mounts.

The SW-MOTECH box and Touratech bracket setups will mount slightly differently, but you can usually tuck the OEM box to the right and/or slightly under the subframe, depending on clearance required to the pannier. The SW-MOTECH box is smaller so it can sit lower and clear the rack support braces.

I'm not sure which hardware kit you have (OEM, SW-MOTECH, or Touratech), but after hearing that GIVI racks in Europe were different than those in the US (either more or less symmetrical - can't recall which), we opted not to bring in the kit - odds being that it wouldn't work on racks purchased here. Thanks for the heads-up, and I'll update that post to prevent any confusion.

Yeah, I keep looking at it and sizing it up, and I just don't see anyway this box is going to fit with the Givi quick release racks. I'm considering significant modifications to the box to mount it to the rack itself with p-clips, but I really wanted the box to be on when I had the racks OFF.

I haven't given up just yet, but I'm close.

I'm still waiting for the updated door kits from Spain and will try to get those included with our next shipment.

Thanks!
I bought mine direct from Spain, is the updated door kit a manufactur fix, or do I pay for it?

Hi Grumpy - the new door kit is a retrofit for the old boxes, but is a cost upgrade. The cost of the boxes increased with the release of the new door design so your original cost plus the upgraded door will come out to be about the same as a new box that includes the new door. If you reach out to Sisco, I'm sure he can get you squared away.

Thanks!

Hi offcamber - hoping to see them soon! I was expecting them on our most recent shipment from Spain, but unfortunately they did not come in. I'll see if I can get an update and will post back up here once I get a commitment.

Thanks...

Heard anything on the water proof door? Removed mine as I found all my tools rusted and not a pretty site with the owners manual.

Wow, you needed to get to some tools

Not checked mine since I fitted it 6 months ago, I put some useful tools in the OE toolkit bag - just enough to tighten up a loose nut / bolt / screw, the required Allen bits and Sockets for removing both wheels in case I end up at a tyre shop that mainly does cars, as long as someone can lend me a decent socket bar I can then do the rest. I also keep a puncture kit in there.

The owners manual I keep at home in a draw ::008::

Good to know that its not waterproof.

BTW, I too carry my owner's manual with me. Never know when there may be some tidbit of info you need to access on the trail...

I keep a puncture repair kit and spare bulbs and fuses in the box. I have the owners and workshop manual downloaded on my phone.

Emailing Francesc at DS Bike Protection about the upgraded door (waterproof) for the first version of the toolbox. Ouch, not the most inexpensive item with shipping to MN.

Door 15€ = $18.76
Shipping cost 23€ = $28.76
Total 38€ = $47.52

Has anybody purchased one and found it to be waterproof? Just trying to wrap my head around if it is worth the expense and just try making the one I have waterproof. No ideas yet on how it will be done or if less expensive as the above item.

Hi guys - I will try to get an updated status on replacement doors. We've had them on order for quite awhile now, so not sure why they haven't arrived stateside.

The door design is now two-piece, with a inner "retention clip" bolted to the door. This allows the door surface to be flat all the way around (versus the prior generation which tucked in at one end to act as the retaining point. The flat surface means the gasket can go all the way around, which should definitely improve weatherproofness. I haven't been able to submerge one of the upgraded boxes to determine the improved water resistance, but expect there will be a marked improvement. I will also sell the door kits (without lock cylinders - you can transfer yours over) at cost to any original raidbox owners...should be a LOT less than sourcing one-off from Spain!

Sorry for the delay on this, and will keep this thread updated once I get more info.

Thanks!

Well, I'm almost embarrassed to post this given the amount of time elapsed.....but I got the new upgraded door kits in.

This is the new two-piece design that is standard on the new models and the full perimeter seal all the way around the door opening should significantly reduce (if not eradicate) water ingress into the box. I've got roughly a dozen of the upgraded doors, all in the natural aluminum finish, all ready to transfer your existing lock and cam arm over. I'm selling them at my cost of $7 and will ship for free in the USA (and as cheap as possible internationally), which means a first generation box can be upgraded to second generation specs for less than the second generation price. ::008::

I don't have the new door on the site yet, but please email us at info AT advmotorrad DOT com or call the shop at (585) 310-ADVM and we can get you squared away.

Thanks!

BTW, I've seen some complaints online about the lock being directly behind the signal light and therefore hard to access. The solution is to install the door upside down with the lock at the bottom. Sounds obvious but with the sticker they put on there, it looks like the orientation is only one way but it works fine upside down.

I can't speak to the water tightness yet as it's been around freezing since I installed it and haven't been out on it :(

Good catch JRE! The lock is definitely easier to access when the door is flipped, and there's no problem doing so (except orientation of the decal). I might recommend to DS Bike that they start sending them out like that...easier for everyone. :D

Thanks!

Yeah, it'd be great if they just left the decal off and just included it in the package. I took it off since it would've been oriented upside down.

My turn lights are on flexible stalks, so I just gently push it out of the way to open the box. ::021::
