Thx so much for your offer. I may take you up on that. Thinking of changing the suspension with Nick at Stoltecmoto. He is in your area..
cheers, Terry

I want to do this adjustment tomorrow but I have a question...

I wont be doing the tubes to leave behind but it appears that there are 2 vacuum ports on the left side throttle body - 1 for the throttle body and 1 for a sensor of some sort.

Does the sensor port need to be blocked off while the adjustments are made? Is there a T already there that you can tap into so that you don't have to block it off?

Sorry if these are dumb questions. I haven't opened it up to look at the bike yet, I'm just trying to do my homework in preparation.

I'm thinkin' of tryin' this, too.

I haven't read the entire thread. So, what I'm about to ask may've alreadly been covered.

I understand that, when it comes to tools, "you get what you pay for". But, considering that I'll probably do this once, in my entire life, is there a sync tool that someone would like to recommend?

I'm not wanting "Harbor Freight" quality, and don't need "MATCO" quality. I'm looking for something along the lines of "Craftsman".

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

The very best is also quite affordable - The "Harmonizer". Only problem is it's not always readily available.

Harmonizer Vacuum Multi-Tool

Check this ADVrider thread here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=701625

And then check the later pages, like here - http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=21547592#post21547592 - for the latest on when you might can get one. Just scroll back through the last couple of pages of posts to see when they might become available again.

It's by far the best, and easiest to use, synch tool I've ever owned, and I've had 'em all, from manometer "stix" and tube rigs, vacuum gauges, Twin-Max, etc. All those stay up on the shelf now, and the "Harmonizer" lives in a handy spot in my tool box. It's even self-calibrating, so there's no worries about it being accurate or needing maintenance itself. Just pull the battery when you're not using it and it should last forever. It's a 9V transistor battery, so even that's easy, and you can get new ones anywhere.

You can even use on the bike while you're riding to check how your intakes operate under load, etc. Only synch tool I've ever had that will do that, and it has some other great functions, too.

Get one. You won't be disappointed. ::008::

I've got a loaner thread I started awhile back - it's in North Carolina (or en route), but is fair game for anyone on the waiting list and wants to just get done.

As mentioned, not a bad idea to own one of these as they become available...

Great.

When are you bringing one to me?

I think that's scheduled for... hmmmmm... let's see... yeah, here it is! It's on the calendar for three weeks after you receive your bright, shiny new one from Grok!!! O:)

Seriously, if you are wondering why I have two, it's pretty simple. I bought one from Grok through his usual channels on the thread, and when I got it arrived it actually sat in the box for awhile because all my bikes had been recently synched. When I finally used it I was amazed at how wonderfully it performed. Just an incredible tool in both design and operation. At that time Grok was posting a bit about his working on a four-cylinder model, and I decided I definitely wanted one of those, so I subscribed to the thread. Not too long after that Grok posted that the development on the four-cylinder model was more problematic that he first thought and that it would be delayed indefinitely. Then he later posted that he wasn't even sure if he would continue to make the twin-cylinder model...

Well, that made me start wondering about spare parts, etc. should it need repair or maintenance. Geez, what if I just dropped it and busted it all to hell? Grok wasn't really selling spare parts so I decided I was going to buy a second one for spares... Only problem was Grok had none available at that time, and had no idea if there ever would be. Fortunately, though, not too long after an inmate here put his "Harmonizer" up for sale... Near new. Mint. Used only once, etc., etc. And the price was more than right... So I snapped it up!

Grok shortly started making 'em again, and I thought about selling off my second one, but then I thought I'd still better hang onto it just in case. If he ever starts regularly producing them again, and especially if he starts selling spares, etc., then I might sell it. Until then...

Trust me on this one. Subscribe to that thread. Watch it carefully. The *DAY* you see he's got some for sale again *INSTANTLY* order one, or better yet, two! Don't hesitate. You'll never regret it. ::008::

BTW, they do pop up from time to time used, so keep your eyes peeled their, too.

So out of curiosity and the bashing of the Twinmax, I just hooked mine to our Druck pressure standard here at work. Our vacuum transducer is fairly large for industrial type equipment so I could not get accurate measurements, but it functioned fine with about the same amount of vac needed for equal deflections in either direction.

I've put my name on the loaner list for the Harmonizer and I'll double check my bikes results against the Twinmax. After seeing the results of the Druck I dont expect anything different than what the TM told me, but I'll report back with any discrepancies.

There is nothing wrong with a Twin-Max's ability to do the job. They work fine, and you can most certainly get an accurate synch with one. I used one I have out on the shelf successfully for years. It's not that at all...

It's that the Twin-Max is a fiddly, certified royal PIA to use compared to a "Harmonizer". The "Harmonizer" is so simple, so quick, and so easy to use it's almost scary. There's nothing to it. Turn it on, plug it in, and your done. It also has a couple of other wonderful functions and capabilities that nothing else out there has, like the the ability to be used while you're actually riding the bike. It's so small, so light, and so tough that it can be clipped up right in front of you so you can ride around normally and see what things are doing under real-world load and operation. That's something the Twin-max simply cannot do...

You'll see what I mean once you use one, especially if you've been used to using a Twin-Max.

So I double checked my TB's with the Harmonizer.

When I first made the adjustment I turned both screws out 3/4 turn and checked balance with the Twinmax. The Twinmax said everything was good so I buttoned her back up. Since then I've noticed the pipes are discoloring a little different so I suspected something not quite right.

I borrowed Karsons Harmonizer and sure enough they were way out of balance. I wound up turning the variable TB almost all the way back in to it's starting point.

After a test ride everything seems nice. Not as rich or "loose" feeling as it was before but still way better than stock. It lugged a little more from starts but nothing like it was in stock.

Sorry Folks, it seems i am late to the party. The Harmonizer seems similar in availability to getting my scar17 mags earlier this spring! I am in the process of doing some performance mods to my trusty tenere, and need to perform these tasks described in this thread...

I know that the harmonizer is the tb sycro to have. that being said, does anyone have any experience with this device?

http://www.amazon.com/Tecmate-TS-111-TecMate-CarbMate-Synchronizer/dp/B0022XTDQA

ecu ships out tomorrow, and leo can will be in pocket. I don't know how long i can wait to get her tuned up and rip roaring.
thanks for the input.
