How did they cheapen it?

It looks plasticy to me. The color matched fender and upper fairing of other years gives a more polished look.WJBertrand said:How did they cheapen it?

Color matched fender had already been done away with in previous years, so that's not new. The non-ES '17 in the sand color scheme has the plain black fender (though the blue color schemes are matched, I believe on both ES and non). I believe all color schemes in '15 had a non-matched fender as well - the '15 non-ES red for sure, given that I have one, but I don't think the silver/blue or the red ES had color-matched fenders either.Bryce said:It looks plasticy to me. the 2014 standard non-es had painted fenders. it doesn't seem that there's much rhyme or reason to Yamaha painting fenders.Sierra1 said:And the new FJR is completely painted matte. So I won't use the word "cheaper". Less expensive to manufacture due to less materials needed. On the positive side....less time/money waxing shiny paint. It was always my understanding that the ES had painted fenders, and non-ES had bare plastic. I didn't realize that the paint was a matte finish. Glad I got my '17 when I did. ::001::
