I bet a flashed 2010/3 will still out-grunt the 2014 as it is still going to be crippled by emission regs and run piss-weak, the clutch basket changes Yamaha made could possibly be a retro-fit, no reason for them to change more than they had too - unless they made a conscious decision to ensure you could not swap the parts over, but my guess is this will be a costly job.tomatocity said:For the 2012-13 Tenere's... AC will flash your ECU for $125... I don't think Yamaha would want to compete with that.
As for the smoothness, if the 2014 is smoother (felt that way to me), I am 'guessing' Yamaha cleaned up the manufacturing specs for the clutch basket, buckets, and retainers (my language).
Thanks kgfire. That is what I was looking for. Do you find any difference in Compression Braking in S or T modes?kgfire said:Having never ridden a ST with a flashed ECU I can only compare my '14 Tenere to my last ST which was a stock '13 model. The differences are slight in that the bike is no faster or more powerful, just slightly smoother, a little quieter, and it has little bit more throttle response in sport mode. The clutch and transmission is smoother and quieter and the engine revs quicker in the first three gears.
Yamaha went with a few refinements, that's it.
Other changes to the '14 are contributing, clutch update for smother operation, valve/cam/ring/new head....... are part of the equation.olddude53 said:Seems like people are liking the mapping in the new 2014 model with better grunt and smoother running..
Wonder if Yamaha will update older bikes to the newer settings?
I rode the same bike on a beautiful day and loved the bike.. yes the vibs were more than I'm used to on any other bike that I've owned but I didn't mind it. I was all ready to buy the bike and just wanted to think it over.. Two days later the weather turned and it was cold (4 degrees C/40 degrees F) and really windy..and they let me take it out again. On the main hiway I was freezing and buffetted around like crazy. AND maybe because of more load, fighting the headwind, the vibs were terrible. Don't know how much the wind wings would have helped, but guess I'm just used to more protection. As for the vibs..well maybe I am too sensitive..Toto said:Had a chance to test ride a 2013 Super Tenere yesterday.
Bike had about 1700 klm on it.
Ran good. T mode and S mode are what I expected having visited this forum and seeing what you lads here had to say.I found the bike really comfy.
It was not really quick, not bad though....but deceptively fast!
I also cranked up the preload and took it down my favorite twisties.
This big girl is a stealth bomber...once set up for the curves it just rails with confidence. It would eat lots of sports bikes alive in tighter areas where high HP would not come into play.
Alas, I could not live with the work a day acceleration/vibration on this bike. Smooth at steady rpm, but anything other the very light throttle application, produced, for ME, unacceptable vibration...at just about all revs.
A shame really, because I really wanted one.
Maybe, I should try to check out the 2014, as I really liked the bike.
Oh, and it was really decent on the slab also...pretty good wind protection, had an aftermarket screen.
Very stable at speed, and ya, you gotta watch that speedo, as I found that it is really easy to motor along at "elevated" speeds.
No, no.....Toto said:270 degree, parallel twin vibration.
I guess it is the normal character of the engine.
