Not sure if anyone here was watching this as closely as I was but i was disappointed not to see a 2013 FJR today. I am told that bike and the new FZ8 will break cover in October. So FJR speculators can run amok until then. ::008::

Might mean there are major changes coming for the FJR!! My '08 was still my favorite bike to date - well, maybe the Tenere is getting close to taking the title.... ;D

My guess is its going to be the new "king"... Im going to guess now that it will have the crossplane motor and it will be a 1400 or 1450. To go against the BMW and Kawasaki, I would guess in the 165 Hp range. Lots of new electrical gizmo's, maybe different power settings like the R1 and Super Tenere, and traction control. I have a 2008 FJR and its a fantastic motorcycle. Probably keep it forever.

I too was hoping for BIG changes, or a completely new FJR. Sadly, this was from Yamaha's official statement:

Both the 2013 model FJR1300 and FZ8 will receive minor changes for 2013 and will be introduced within the next month. :(

That's what they put out before the Gen1 to Gen2 change. Hang in there.

I liked the Gen II mods enough I sold my Gen I got one and still think it's a great bike. It wouldn't bother me to hang on to it for another year but if we get a significant upgrade, I'd definitely consider getting one. :-\

I had an 04 (Gen I) and currently have an 08 (Gen II). I don't see me getting the Gen III bike, because when I want to go ride, the ST is now my first choice!

Judging by Yamaha's prices in the UK, they are finding life very difficult financially. At least that was their initial excuse for major price hikes. Being so strapped for cash, they are unlikely to spend money on major redesigns when they can get away with a few cosmetics and that seems to be the picture emerging from the 2013 range.

My dealer has indicated the factory is being pretty quiet on info for the FJR. Hmmmmm?

I sold my FJR after I bought the XTZ. Something about my wife wanting to actually use the garage.
I would really like to have another FJR. Being a tech geek, I want all of the technology upgrades. Until they do a redesign, I will be sitting on the sidelines for that class of motorcycle.

Hard to argue with this reality. Even if Yam did spend the dosh to totally upgrade/redesign, are there enough buyers out there for it in this crap economy? It might be a Gen II bike with newer EFI (mostly for emissions) YCCT, TC. Maybe they'll do it like they transitioned the R1 from the 20 valve motor to the 16, then two years later they did crossplane crank/total resdesign. A few incremental changes....then WHAM! On the other hand, is the S/T market as big as it once was? I think our very own Super Tens and other adv type bikes are crowding the S/T market out a bit. And with the crappy roads these days, the longer susp. travel adv bikes are a lot happier dealing with that reality.

I think there's room for it. Look how Triumph has added themselves to the mix with the new Trophy. The key will be to have the bike at a good price point and have it sorted so as to not compromise its reputation on the front end and its sales on the back end.

Agree with pHILLIPPE'...however - the Trumpy Trophy is immediately outta my league with it's hefty price tag.
+$18 Large without any farkles is BMW territory.
I won't and I can't.
I bet'cha it's a sweeeeet sled though.

I still think that a new FJR is coming out soon. This is based on the reaction of the Yamaha reps at a recent demo when I posed the question. i actually saw one actively discourage a guy who was seriously interested in a new 2012 by saying: "wait a few weeks". Maybe I am reading too much into this, but ...
Yamaha needs to regain the sport touring throne after the GTL and Concours pushed it aside.
Still one of my favorite bikes and it was between that an an ST. Do you think that the "fun police" would let me have another bike in the garage?

Saw a few stats a while back. Conventional type tourer sales have dropped by 26% here in the UK - where Adv type bikes are still holding firm. I still say bikes like the Ten are now replacing old school sports tourers and the larger dedicated tourer. Yamaha would probably be better off having a Goldwing type machine - powered by a VMax motor and a TDM 1200 to sit alongside the Ten.

I would agree with 20valves. Peformance and all is really closer than it has ever been with the Super tens and all, unless they really step it up drastically.

What they think the New 2013 FJR 1400 will look like...

I got these from a friend of mine who is a die hard FJR fan. Since he rode my Super Ten, he wants one really bad.

Since they upped the FJR price in the UK to $21-22,000 it is simply too expensive for what it is. Same money as a Ducati Multistrada and too close to 6 cylinder BMW - they've no chance. I speak as an ex FJR owner with 120,000 miles on three FJRs. On top of the asking price you have to budget to replace the undersprung crappy rear shock. Now you are really talking too much money. Problem is that, if they do bring out a heavily revised FJR with all the bells and whistles, it will even heavier (isn't every revised new model?) and EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE. And, because Yamaha seem incapable of responding to buyers concerns and insist on knowing best, it will probably still have an undersprung crappy rear shock.
