Why not just plug the Montana directly in to the SMH10, like you would an ipod?

My OEM plastic one stripped clean nearly two years ago. I didn't bother replacing it as I use it so infrequently and it's nothing that an adjustable wrench can't handle. This item looks great but at $45+ to ship to Oz, I'll think i'll just let apathy reign.

I haven't yet trucked/trailered the bike, but yes that could cause that type of damage I expect.

If it's older version, which I have, is anything to go by, it'll be great. I hope they've made the earphone socket mount a bit more sturdy, or at the very least a flexible mount; both my son's and mine have broken after about a year's solid use.

I've worked out that with mine, the reserve light comes on with about 6 litres (1.5 gallons) left in the tank. I've gone about 75 kms (46 miles) on reserve and filled up with 21 litres, which means there was 2 litres (1/2 gallon) left.

The bike has been barely out of my sight since I last touched that panel, either in the garage or with me out riding and coming straight back to the garage, so I'm struggling to think when something/someone had the possible opportunity to make such a stealth-like blow to the side of my bike...

I've only done about 100 kms off road (out of a 40,000 km total), and even then it's been pretty tame mostly-graded dirt roads, so I don't think its that. I'll look into the Plastech repair system, thanks.
