I recently purchased the SMH 10 / SM 10.

Does anyone have any experience pairing these units?

I can pair my iPhone 5 to the SMH10 OR the SM to to the SMH10.

So far I have not been able to pair both devices to the SMH 10.

Any help is appreciated.

Under Bluetooth settings on your phone, choose the smh10 and "forget" it.

Turn off bluetooth on your phone. Turn on your smh 10. Turn on the sm10. Mine links without forcing it but you may have to put the sm10 into link mode.

Once that link is established, turn on your phone's Bluetooth.

The iPhone is capable of using both available Bluetooth links on the smh10 and it will unless you pair it with the sm10 first.

While I have you, I will give you a couple of sm10 tips.

1. The blinking lights are terribly annoying at night. Mount it somewhere out of view. I've asked Sena to consider a timer function on the blinking lights to make them stop after a few minutes.

2. The battery lasts about 1/2-3/4 as long as the smh10. I have taken to turning off the sm10 a fair amount.

3. Double tap the pairing button on the sm10 to increase the volume by a good bit. It retains this setting when you power it down.

4. The only way to use your phone as a music source when using the sm10 is the headphone jack on the phone hard wired to the sm10.

Thanks!!!

I will try this. Very helpful and not explained anywhere in the manuals.

I am DISAPPOINTED to heat this:
"The only way to use your phone as a music source when using the sm10 is the headphone jack on the phone hard wired to the sm10."
Was hoping to avoid having any more wires than necessary anywhere on the bike.
I went for a ride today without the SM 10 and the iPhone streaming music to the headset and helmet speakers.
Worked a treat!

Happy for this advice:
"Double tap the pairing button on the sm10 to increase the volume by a good bit. It retains this setting when you power it down. "
When I had the SM 10 connected I could not get the required volume. Will try this as well.

Will try all of this by tomorrow.

OK so I performed the pairing as Bloodline suggested.
It works..... kinda.

1. I am not convinced the iPhone bluetooth phone functionality is actually working. I need to make a call with the phone and test. Listening to a voicemail tonight I have the impression the sound is through the headphone mode of the iPhone, not via Bluetooth. I will test further tomorrow by making a call from the headset.

2. Because the iPhone music is via the headphone jack and not Bluetooth the SMH10 ability to advance tracks is not possible. Need to do it on the phone.

My ONLY reason for having the SM10 is to get voice prompts from my Montana into my headset.
If that means surrendering track selection from the SMH10 and full bluetooth phone capability I may just surrender the SM10 and return it.

Further testing in the coming days.

"Why not just plug the Montana directly in to the SMH10, like you would an ipod?"

The whole point of this exercise is to have a wires free helmet.
I don't like having my head "tethered" to anything.

I wand the ability to hear music, the voice prompts from the Montana and the ability to have phone conversations. an additional feature is the ability to communicate with other riders that have the Sena or a passenger.

You are correct. The only thing we use the SM10 for is 2 up riding so we can share the same music, wirelessly.

The SM10 uses the stereo 'a2DP' bluetooth link. that only leaves the mono link for the phone. The iphone is nothing more than a bluetooth "headset" or telephone when only that link is available.

I installed a RAM X cradle on the bars and carry the iphone in a lifeproof case with it wired to the sm 10. My wife generally does a reach around (snicker) and plays with the music.

When i go out for a ride by myself, i don't even take the sm10. As you know, the SMH10 works great with an Iphone.

I think the biggest market for the SM10 is the gold wing/harley market where they have wired onboard systems with controls.

One other idea- the montana has an onboard chime. I can hear it when I'm at city speeds, which is when I need a prompt anyway. Set it to alert turns forget the sm10 is my best advice, unfortunately.

Just got off the phone with Sena.

They advise that the iPhone and the SM 10 both use the A2DP channel for music. So only ONE of them can be connected to the SMH10 for music.

Sena suggested for my use that I am better off using the SR10 which does not use the A2DP channel. The SR10 will do exactly what I want:

iPhone for music and phone via bluetooth to the helmet
Montana connected by wire to the SR10 which will provide the voice prompts to the helmet.

BTW I also have the iPhone in Lifeproof and Ram X on the Super Tenere and on my mountain bike. What a great piece of kit! I am always worried that the phone is going to fall out when I am riding on rough terrain but the damn thing holds the phone in without any hint of falling out. Would still like to have a tether for the Liefepoof just in case the phone falls out of the Ram X. I have an idea to use the plug for the headphones as a lash point for the tether. Just havent figured it completely out just yet.

Re: Sena SMH-10 / SM10 / SR10

SM10 exchanged for the SR 10 and problem solved.

It all works now as it should.

Perhaps a new development here. Sena has enabled multi point pairing. I think it's now possible to link the sm10 and a smartphone with full control of both. I'm going to give it a shot.

I have been using my iPhone w/ the SMH10 and it is super! A group I ride with here has been using the GMRS radios. So I got a Motorola radio and the Sena SR10. At first use I didn't have enough volume on the iPhone to hear it. Sena announced the release of V4.2 Beta firmware to fix this situation.
Tomorrow I will be testing it. I'm hopeful that it will work as promised.

I'll let y'all know.

Does anyone understand the relative merits of the SM10 vs. the SR10? I understand it has to do with different bluetooth interfaces optimized for the aux two-way radio mission vs. the streaming music mission, but I'm sketchy on details. My main objective is prompt transmittal/override of radar detector audio alerts into the bluetooth system and not having the RD "take over" the audio channel, preventing me from intercoming to another bike during the alert.

Thanks,

I can speak for the SM10.

THIS is precisely what the multipoint pairing should fix.

With single point pairing, spoken directions are NOT heard if you have an open mic on the intercom. If you are listening to music via the SM10, spoken directions ARE heard.

I'm hoping to try the multipoint pairing and see if it works tomorrow. I'll report the findings.

The basic differences between the SM10 and the SR10 as I understand it are:

1. The SR 10 is mono. SM10 is stereo.
2. The SR10 is a single transmitter. The SM10 is dual, meaning that you and your passenger can hear the same audio that is broadcast by the SM10.
3. They SR10 uses the mono connection and the SM10 uses the stereo A2DP connection. This means that the only way to get streaming audio from a phone to your headset when using the SM10 is with a wired connection from the phone to the SM10. This might not be the case using the new multipoint connection. I haven't tried it yet. The SR10 will not occupy the "media" connection that is required to stream music to your headset from a smartphone. However, if you hook a music player or phone by wire to the SR10, you will hear music, but it will be mono.

I am under the impression that with the new multipoint pairing, I should be able to pair both the "media" and "phone" connections to my iphone AND pair the "media" connection to the SM10, simultaneously.

Yes, please report back.

To better define my interest, I want a system that does the following:

1. Pair the phone directly to the headset for infrequent calls. (I have an iPhone5.)
2. Possibly play streaming music from the phone. (Not sure I'd use this - in the past I've found it too distracting, but I'd like to try it again.)
3. Allow bike-to-bike short range intercom.
4. Have RD alerts immediately sound and not preempt any bike-to-bike communication that might be occurring (which might have started both before or after the alert).

No interest in passenger sharing of music, playing other audio sources, etc.

In limited reading I've done, I've got he impression that perhaps the SR10 is the better option to bring the RD in, but I'm not sure. Also don't know the relative costs of the SM10 vs. SR10.

Thanks,

- Mark

Ok... so the sound level is MUCH better with the V4.2 Beta firmware! ::012:: However, before with the iPhone 4S and the SMH10 I could make calls, receiver calls and use the Siri function on my iPhone... play music... pause music... stop music etc... NOW with the SMH10 the iPhone the SR10 and the Motorola GMRS radio I have radio function with ALL the other riders on the ride which is VERY cool! BUT... I get no Siri functions at all. I tap the phone button in the back and it plays music or stops music it does nothing for making a call or answering a call. I get NO notification of a incoming call. Well... if I were to look down at the iphone mounted on the Ram X mount on the top of my RKA In-Charge tankbag dashboard I would see that a phone call is coming in. But I would not hear any notification... so no option to answer it at all.

So this kind of sucks... I would love to be able to use the phone functions of the iPhone 4S the way it was without the SR10. Now I only use the SR10 when riding with that group of guys.

I'm waiting to hear back from Richard at RKA as he says it's supposed to work... we will see! If I get any resolution I will post it.

No. Smh10, only.

Now, if you and a passenger want to listen to the same music, that's when it gets complicated.
