That is an eye opener for sure Bob.
Fyi i won’t attend unless i am vaccinated first.Well said Terry. For myself and loved ones we are minimizing the risks while still enjoying life as well as we can. If this means I don't go to a rally with a group of guys who brag on off roading their Super Tenere with street tires then so be it. I will instead be more than happy to drive up to the mountains and relax at the cabin with my wife.
This virus has changed almost everyones outlook on life and how we approach it. I have simply made adjustments and am 100% onboard to get the last vaccine dose so we can lighten up a little.
I understand the hesitancy and agree totally that the companies are in it for a profit. But with over a half BILLION shots given for more than a half year, the vaccines are proven, issues are well publicized, and they are moving from emergency use authorization (EUA) to FDA approved. The EUA was something the Trump Administration did do right because without it and the Govt granting immunity, the 6 month requirement would've meant the manufacturers would not have full approval and started ramping up production till NOW!I hate to be antagonistic but I am very skeptical. Particularly since these vaccine manufacturers are immune from lawsuit should someone have adverse reactions. If they stood by their product they would not have this provision. They like to postulate that they are being altruistic but lets be real the bottom line is the dollar, if it cures the virus thats besides the point
And yet the current administration is taking credit for the quick roll out.. . . . The EUA was something the Trump Administration did do right because without it and the Govt granting immunity, the 6 month requirement would've meant the manufacturers would not have full approval and started ramping up production till NOW! . . . .
They are politricians Sierra lol.And yet the current administration is taking credit for the quick roll out.
I was trying to be fair to Trump and will even add that Biden stupidly did say early on that there was no distribution plan when there was one even if it was not well developed or functioning. And yet the current administration is taking credit for the quick roll out.
fair enough! hopefully this will be over soon.. and another virus wont come along!I understand the hesitancy and agree totally that the companies are in it for a profit. But that's not why my daughter and her friends from work killed themselves developing this stuff nights and weekends for the last year. Now that they moved her to growing nasty cells for something unrelated she says she feels really good about what she was part of. Kinda the moon-shot for her generation of scientists.
On a related note, CDC says the rate of adverse allergic reaction is only 11 per million doses, almost all within 30 minutes, and the antidote is kept at vaccination sites.
What I remember is Trump promising a vaccine by the end of the year. "They" were saying it wasn't possible, and actually ridiculed him for making the promise. The vaccines were approved, for emergency use, in December. I also remember the media broadcasting that CVS, and Walgreens were in communications with the Government for distribution. . . . then there were crickets after it got approved.I was trying to be fair to Trump and will even add that Biden stupidly did say early on that there was no distribution plan when there was one even if it was not well developed or functioning.
But to be equally fair to Biden, the main theme of his campaign was immediate action and he followed through. Remember when Trump was offered doses and initially turned them down, then got upset those doses were being sold overseas so he tried to "Nationalize" production? Biden implemented the War Powers Act immediately, which Trump resisted probably because it meant funding much of the production for PPE, ventilators, and vaccine development.
Biden and his people loudly told industry just after the November election that the money taps would open on January 20 and right after that is exactly when charts show the cases & deaths peaked. What he was telling Pfizer & all was a direct (probably illegal but needed) message to get into high production on your dime NOW and we will pay you back.
If Trump had not delayed and denied from January into March 2020, plus used War Powers, the vaccines could have been in wide use in use two months earlier in October, the peak of the curve would've shifted left by two months into November, and he probably would have been re-elected. Trump blew it initially and then was penny wise pound foolish.
Plus the height of the pandemic did not have to be so many dead Americans. Dr. Birx recently:
"I look at it this way -- the first time we have an excuse. There were about 100,000 deaths that came from that original surge," Birx said. "All of the rest of them, in my mind, could have been mitigated or decreased substantially."
Speaking as someone who is not a doctor or scientist, but as someone who has observed far more drug advisory board meetings than I care to count, everything related to the pharmaceutical industry is about risk mitigation, including corporate liability. And all drugs have adverse events reported, up to and including fatal outcomes. There is no way to mitigate risk 100% with anything, so some protection against liability for outlier events is necessary. It sucks if you happen to be one of those outliers, but all of the mitigation efforts (lockdowns, travel restrictions, mask mandates and the vaccines) have always been about saving as many lives as possible, not saving everyone, which would have been impossible.I hate to be antagonistic but I am very skeptical. Particularly since these vaccine manufacturers are immune from lawsuit should someone have adverse reactions. If they stood by their product they would not have this provision. They like to postulate that they are being altruistic but lets be real the bottom line is the dollar, if it cures the virus thats besides the point
Kinda like the guy I saw on TV saying he'll never get the vaccine because he doesn't know what's in it, all this whilst popping McDonalds Chicken Nuggets in his mouth dipped in mystery sauce! What I remember is Trump promising a vaccine by the end of the year. "They" were saying it wasn't possible, and actually ridiculed him for making the promise. The vaccines were approved, for emergency use, in December. It is what it is, regardless of our beliefs and desires.
Getting back to the thread topic. . . . it still makes me lose my mind when I hear a smoker tell me that they worry about the vaccine side affects. We KNOW what cigarettes can/will do. . . . and people still smoke. We know that the vaccine works. . . . and people still abstain. I agree that we don't absolutely know the long term side effects. I'm playing the odds.
And under commit every step of the way. Let's see some goals that are a challenge to meet. The latest is that by April 18th every adult will be eligible for the vacine, but he says nothing about how quickly they may be able to find an appointment. I think about half the states already beat him to it. He could have as easily said today all are eligible. I didn't vote for either guy, but don't think Trump gets credit due for "warp speed".And yet the current administration is taking credit for the quick roll out.
You have to ask yourself which politician is causing the problem. 'Cuz, other states are not having the same issues. Texas is vaccinating everybody. . . . even 8 year olds; over a dozen so far. There's an uproar asking how it could have happened. Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't they be asking the parent that had to be with the child? I saw on the media this morning that other states are looking at Texas to see what happens. . . . since everything is open, the mask mandate is lifted. . . . and the numbers have not skyrocketed. . . . yet. I'm also not the only person that has noticed that mask wearing has increased since the mandate was dropped. Apparently, if you want people to wear them. . . . tell them they don't have to.Getting the vaccine here in Colorado at least is near impossible even if you do want it. Stupidest system ever. . . .
We are brilliant in the UK - can’t understand why the world hates us so much (or indeed why certain sections of the population here suffer from such self-loathing).Just to point out that the Oxford AstraZeneca vax is not for profit. Oxford university developed it using uk tax payer funding and gave it to AstraZeneca on the understanding that it was only to be sold at cost price (£2.30). This was to ensure that even the poorest countries would be able to afford it. But big pharma have been going after them ever since with scare stories about clots which occurred in 7 out of 18m people! Women all over the world take pills with way more danger that that but nothing is said about that.

I just got signed up but it took a little doing. I was going through a private health care website and had a similar experience. Wisconsin just opened it up to 16+. Once I selected a date a few weeks out it worked fine. There was just a lot of demand for the near-term slots and it was super annoying seeing "this time will be held for 10 minutes while you complete your application" only to have an error at the end. I'm betting that servers just couldnt quite keep up. I think there's a substantial difference in States and the relative demand vs available supply. I don't know where Colorado is in terms of the numbers vaccinated, but WI was 15th in terms of the percent of the population, whereas Texas was 45th. It suggests lower relative demand in some states, which would make it easier to get scheduled.Getting the vaccine here in Colorado at least is near impossible even if you do want it. Stupidest system ever. Search for vaccine, finally get in to some website after 95 seconds of spinning, then enter the site by passing a check for robo by looking and selecting trees vs cattle or whatever, then select 2 dose shot, then select 1st shot, then get the automated assistant, yay. Next answer, which shot you want, well I already said shot one, repeat that answer, next question- distance desired, select largest, then all available come up, but 85% say no available. 15% say "limited" available. Click on those, then select your date. All dates are greyed out except one or two, but selecting them always comes up the same. No available spots. What a crock of crap.
There are still more people wanting shots than there are shots available. The Feds tell each State Sunday evening what their allotments will be for the week and appointments open up Monday mornings. If you try to book much after that the appointments will likely be taken.Getting the vaccine here in Colorado at least is near impossible even if you do want it. Stupidest system ever.
