Where do you guys hook up the wires? directly from the battery or somewhere else so it's switched off when the key is off?

Thank you

I am using an FZ1 fuse block. When I turn off the bike the power to the gps is turned off.

Same as Japako...wired into a Fuse block to go off with the bike. The unit however (as you probably know) stays on after it loses power and will ask you if you want it to stay on and if you select "yes" it will run on battery power. I actually do this while gasing up sometimes if there is a good song on ::013::

I power my Zumo through the same "direct wired to battery" (w/fuse) Powerlet that I use for my battery tender.

I do this so I can play with maps/routes/etc while the bike is parked and not have to have the ignition on.

Works for me!

I decided to go with a fuse block I found for sale not too far from me http://www.motorcycleinnovations.ca/default.asp .

Now I have to plug the wire to turn on with the ignition, where did you guys plug that to? I was wondering if I can connect to some wire of the heated grips, OEM fog lights that I already have. Any pictures would be appreciated.
Thanks

"Re: Anyone mount an FZ-1 Fuze block?"

Do a search for the post above and at response #61 i believe you will find some pics of a fuse block install. Hope this helps.

Here is a pic of mine, if it helps.

I tapes into the main power at the starter solenoid using a 30 amp in-line fuse. I picked up the 'switched power' signal from the blue/black wire on the 4 pin heated grips connector (below/behind the two existing fuse blocks under the right hand panel).

Like Rod, I connect direct to battery with a wire that has a fuse in it. Never had a problem. ::008::

I really like how you've routed the wires that go to the front of the bike. I have a PC-8 in that same spot. I'm obsessive about wire routing..must be from working on aircraft for so long.

The only fuse block I found on that site was the FZ-1. In addition to the other resources noted above, there’s a page over in the Mods Database for the FZ-1 with some install photos.

I tapped the auxiliary light connector wires for the switched power trigger.

Garmin Hard Wiring Instoruction

Anyone have a wiring diagram or recommendation for where to hard wire a Garmin dock so that it only powers on with the ignition on?

I used the switched live wire for my 590 LM as described in this thread ...

There are 2 connectors forward of the battery tucked up in the space behind the tool box... the one with the 3 connectors is the one you want.... I bared a bit of the brown wire and soldered an attachment wire onto it.... ( in fact I put two female connectors onto the extended bit.... one I plugged the Autom into, the other the Zumo.

Earth I utilised the silver bolt just behind the tank on the sub frame.... it works fine.. and turns off with the ignition. ^-^

I'll ask the dumb question...why not use the 12v power outlet or do you have it used for something else?

Looks tidy, leaves the 12V power outlet free.... no possible issues with the 12V plug not liking bad weather ^-^

::026:: I've wired a 660 or 665 to all three of my Teneres using that plug. I always solder a spade connector to each wire on the GPS wire harness. Snip off one side of the spade and the remaining side fits perfectly into the female connector. Seal it up with silicone tape and done. Easy and permanent.
