I have notice that alot of you mention Mobil oil, in SA whe do get Yamalube but the most popular motorcycle oil is Motul and Castrol Actevo,

The Castrol Actevo is a local oil but Motul is imported, I have always used Motul and also do so on my S10, it is much more prizy than the Yamalube but for me it is a good oil and I stick to it.

I know the oil threads are endless on any forum but there are always something new to learn.

What is your opinion about the Motul oil ?

Instead of discussing which oil is good, I would like to hear about bad oil. I've searched long and hard for an oil to avoid because it caused an engine failure. I'm not talking about a clutch slipping from using a friction modified oil, I want to hear about an oil that caused an engine to blow.

Sold a 2006 FZ1 to a guy who worked in a Yamaha shop. He asked what oil had been used and did not like the fact this bike
had a steady diet of Delo, Delvac, and Rotella during my ownership (currently have nine bikes and they all get diesel oil).
Came into the service area of the shop about three weeks after his purchase and bike was on a lift with the clutch removed.
Seems he had changed the oil and tried Amzoil. Result: clutch headache.
Back in the early 70s Klotz two-stroke was a problem for some. Knew a guy who had to have a "crank job" done and he blamed
Klotz oil for this problem.

My money says there was nothing wrong with the oil, he either mixed it wrong or had an air filter problem. Dirt is the number one enemy of a two stroke, they have to have a good air filter.

Klotz was pretty bad stuff it always left a dry film on the parts . You pull a motor down they were always with no oil film on parts . Amzoil was pretty bad early on but Quietly changed the formula . Havoline is one that would not Ever be in my shop . A friend was part of a big study the one on top was a truck oil that most people never heard of .
