A source tells me that Yamaha are offering their dealers the software and connectors (for a price) to enable Power Commander style remapping in the shop.
The kit exists albeit in beta form but when it is rolled out, the dealer will be able to tune your bike as you want it and that map becomes yours.

I have yet to find out if they will be able to delete the deliberate power reduction in the lower gears of the new Super Tenere. We wait....

Now we are talking, hopefully the U.S. dealers will not be far behind, tho I doubt my dealer will be interested. May have to travel to Texas I reckon.

This very similar to the Multi 1200 I purchased in 2010, being new and the fueling was off a bit for some bikes. A beta version test was sent out to some dealers and reps went around to select dealers to teach them how to do the flash. I was caught when I tried to get my bike done but the dealer had not heard about it yet, 6 months later they had, but I found another dealer much sooner than that.

Tony in Longview, Tx. are you listening, you could get in on the first training session maybe. That would be a short ride for me. ::015::

Blimey! ::025:: This is interesting and I can't wait to see what unravels! However, all things Tenere in North America seem to take a "back of the line" approach.

(This is my pessimistic and condescending side talking, of course.) ::)

Not pessimistic at all...you're just being real. Don't feel too bad though. I live where the bike is made and we're last in line for this type of thing (S10 is not a domestic Japanese market bike).

Interesting!
Is this related to the S10 or (an)other Yamaha bike(s)?

yeah i think they know they failed us, as we are most of us unhappy with the stock power on the S10, compared to all the other up coming big trailies at 130bhp. and yamaha know that will swing peoples decisions and buy other brands of bike. i bet next year they will be selling SUPER TENERES with more horses under the tank.
still im more than happy with mine now, even though its cost me a fookin fortune to get there  ::022::

This is the single biggest factor putting me off the S10, I could live with a £300 cost to sort it, but really do not like what I hear about getting the ECU to / from Motoshop, it seems Motoshop are very slow and the customs / couriers are no better.

To do an operation like this they need to be on the ball, reflashing and returning within one working day, the customs side sorted and able to offer gauranteed next day deliveries (or at least in Europe)

I don't know why they do not just Franchise the offering, it would not be hard to setup a computer for the reflashes in the UK and use one time passcodes to allow a reflash so a "franchisee" pays £XXX for each reflash code, you could ride in to your local Franchise (having pre-paid) so the dealer has bought the Reflash code from Diapson, plug you in, put code in PC, press "make punter happy" button and Bobs-Your-Uncle.

If Yamaha offer a decent reflash (similar to Diapson) at fair money I will be looking to get one very soon, until then unless a Diapson bike appears for sale in the UK I will wait a little longer.

I think Yamaha probably have realised they should have given it GS beating power from day one, and not to have restricted the lower gears - which seems to be the most popular talk item here.

It was the same on early ZZR's, owners all over the world where throwing away the secondary butterflies, and forums were full of chatter about it - by the 3rd model year Kawasaki had removed the restrictions - I wonder if Yamaha will do the same for next years Tenere?

I got the impression it was a generic thing.

More good news.... In the UK last month/December, there was a serious rush on S10s and there are now none(ish) available. Seems the word is getting around.

I might be being a thick (not unusual for me) but I can't see anywhere in the thread about who you sent your ecu to. I'm assuming it's not in NI but mainland based with your gatwick reference. Can you post details please?.

cheers mate

I would never expect it to be street legal if you are remapping away from the settings that comply with the emissions regs? Just one of those things, and something I can live with!

Thanks for the news Ray. Guess YAMAHA knows there are some bikes out there that are rough running at idle and under load in certain rev ranges (as well as the power issue). Anything YAMAHA can offer to address this is a positive sign rather than the old "We'vre never heard of that before" approach. Hoping this gets to be available everywhere Super Teneres are sold. While the ability to use the electronic dash in diagnostic mode is a plus the lack of an ability to software tune at YAMAHA dealers is a disadvantage.
Staying tuned. ::017::

I thought that too but I suppose there must be some leeway depending upon where you are getting it tested (i.e. no leeway in California etc). On top of that in the UK there is no emmissions test for bikes so I suppose it may be just a UK thing. As I understand it at present, we do not now even need to have an "EC" (European Community) marked exhaust.

On top of that, it would be marked up as a Yamaha (dealer) modification so insurance would not be effected.

Harley Davidson has been offering factory remapping for years. There are typically two levels, one being regulation compliant and the other labelled for Race Application only. Diapason Racing appears to have some kind of corporate/development relationship with Yamaha. It is possible that Yamaha will be using the Diapason developed ECU modifications.
