After having owned a total of 8 BMWs I can openly state that I love 'em....when they work. I will never buy another first year BMW model EVER again. I will most likely own another some time down the road based on my first statement.

AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa............................................. Not after owning the Yamaha Super Tenere.... :D ;D After you ride and bash the crap out of it for about five years... you will catch yourself one day at a dealership asking someone "The thing works awesome, its never been back to the shop after the day I bought it, does it need something done to it"................"dont you guys need to check something" ? LOL It happens to most Yamaha bike owners....... :D

That's what I have planned for my first "long" trip (in 2012).

I don't want to dilute this thread too much with my tales of woe nor do I want it to be a bash BMW slant but suffice it to say that the GT's demise was a defective clutch that they could not repair no matter what they did and the GS was on its way to a fourth gas tank. There was a very long list of other issues above and beyond these but those were the nemesis issues that promulgated the final decision from BMW to buy them back. The GT had well over 90 days total in the shop time after 13,000 plus miles on it and the GS had over 90 days total in shop time in almost 12,000 miles as well. At one time, I had figured that the bike went to the shop for a warranty or recall issue once every 667 miles!

After having owned a total of 8 BMWs I can openly state that I love 'em....when they work. I will never buy another first year BMW model EVER again. I will most likely own another some time down the road based on my first statement.
