Well the time has come to actually buy something for my new bike. So I went to my dealer last week. We worked a very fair deal and before I paid I asked if he could give Yamaha a call and see when I might expect delivery. He called, and they said the items are all on HOLD for quality assurance. I can only hope that means we are fixing the fiddly lock mechanism's. So basically I didn't buy anything. I told the parts guy to let me think about it and that I didn't want to feel rushed. I hate to spend $1100 bucks and not have the bags even when the bike gets here which I have a feeling that may end up being the case. Anyone else heard this "on hold" stuff about OEM accesories?

I haven't heard on hold news but my dealer did say lets wait until the end of July before ordering OEM goodies. From my original long list of OEM stuff I'm down to ordering just the side wind deflectors. I found after market stuff to fill the rest.

I wonder if the "on hold" is simply Yamaha not shipping accessories without a bike to put them on.

I wouldn't hold out high hopes that they're fixing the locks or making any changes at all.

If these things run their usual course, when the bike ships, some accessories will be readily available, some will be in short supply, and some will be delayed. How the tsunami delay affected this, I have no idea, but I will be surprised if everything is available.

Just speculating on how these things usually run; I have no hard info.

I believe most, if not all, of the S10 accessories come from European suppliers. Maybe I'm having a senior moment, but I recall an article about the company getting the contract for the hard luggage being based in Spain. The Yamaha accessories, presumably unchanged vs. the Euro accessories, have been in production for over a year; in fact, many of the accessories (including the bags) were standard, rather than optional, until recently in Europe. So if things aren't available when the US bikes ship, I don't think Yamaha can blame the tsunami.

It just seems par for the course that there are always shortages of accessories when a new bike ships. For Honda's models with optional hard luggage (e.g. the VFR800) it has become more or less par for the course that the luggage ships a year after the bike does. For a brand new model, I suspect accessories just get the short shrift compared to getting the core bike in production, but I also think the mfgs have a tough time gaging demand, and they're deathly afraid of getting stuck with excess inventory.

markjenn, I can understand your point of getting stuck with stock, but if we order this stuff at the time of the bike, it should give them an estimate or demand for them to manufacture. We would then get the bags and bike at same time.

I picked up my Tenere accessories last week. I've got the LED signals, Tenere tank pad/ sticker and the headlight cover. I was going to order the side deflectors when they are released in the US but if it's November I'll order them earlier from a Canadian dealer.

It's a good thing I have my Micatech panniers to hold all these parts... :))

Would make sense, but keep in mind that accessories are not under the PDP system - Yamaha is not producing them to hard orders like the bike. There's a lot of folks who committed to the basic bike, but who are going to "sleep around" with respect to accessories, making decisions at the last minute. So Yamaha is having to estimate demand and produce to that estimate rather than having a hard number to work with.

Is there a good dealer you can recommend? I need to buy the side defectors as well. My dealer won't have them until Nov..

I ordered mine from a Hamilton, Ontario dealer and my buddy picked them up for me (saved on shipping, etc).

The Tenere accessories are under Sport Touring (weird eh?), 2012 and then XT1200Z.
I could not get the link to work.......

This one seems to be working:

I am currently looking at the Givi Trekker sidebags and Givi racks. I think I will also go with a Altrider rear rack to replace the tiny stock rack. All of the above is in stock and ready for shipment. And it all cost less which is good. I have always had good service from Givi products and fitment has been good.

I went with the Givi Trekkers and also the Givi top-rack (for the tail trunk). For the side mounts, SW-Motech seems to have the better mounting system, so I went with them.

Good luck!

Rob how much better are the swmoto side racks? They are both detachable right? Are the Givi racks flawed in some way? Their products have always been top notch. I am not doing a top case on this bike as I have in the past on other bikes. Instead I have switched to using a wolfman explored duffle work top rack use. I find it works better fir camping which is 90% of what I do. But to use the wolfman duffle I would like a little larger tail rack and altrider's rack looks the business.

I don't mean to take anything away from the Givi racks. I too have always been very pleased with ALL their products. The difference I noted (besides the symmetry issue) is that Givi only uses a 3-point mount on the each side whereas the SW-Motech uses a 4-point (the extra one being at the rear fender. Yes, SW-Motech are quick release as well (they offered the feature before Givi).

Speaking of OEM purchases. Any of our over seas Tenere owners have any experience with the Yamaha headlight guards? I like the design but fear they might cause some aberration in the spread of the light, or diminish candle power.

Hey Jeff,

I'm looking for one now aswell.... Prolly have to get from Canada or Europe... I'm sure that Yamaha has worked on the optics and from what I have read over the last year, there is little change on or off...... But this is third person... I'm going get one anyhow, im going to get some auxiliary lights and Ive read the replacement cost of the 'bug-eye' lights are big bucks....... They are glass so one rock and could get expensive quick....... If you happen to come across a good price on that protector could you post or find..... or PM me...... Thanks

I've used https://www.yamahagenuineparts.com (Canada), they aren't the cheapest but they are reliable. That's the best i've found so far, they seem to have everything.

I do like the Yamaha protector a lot using standoffs is the way to go. I've taken some chips in the past following sport bikes with sticky tires!
