Yamaha Competition Only EFI Map?

Like lots of folks here, I've done the CO adjustment and TB sync and, while I am very happy with the bike, I feel that the fueling can still be improved. I still have a little bit of surging on overrun between 3K and 4K, some snatchiness down low, and a little bit of breathlessness up top. I'm intending to go with the Arrow Ti muffler and potentially the Arrow headers. Lots of folks here have used a Power Commander with success, but personally I'm not wild about it. If possible, I'd rather re-map the stock Yamaha EFI to work the way I want it to, without having to have a PCV trick it into functionality. I know other brands (particularly European brands like Ducati) will have "Competition Only" or "Closed Course Off Road only" maps that go with their hot exhaust systems from Akra, Arrow, Termiogini, etc., and the dealer can upload that map to the bike in 5 minutes. Has anyone had luck with getting something similar from a Yamaha dealer? Does anyone know if such a thing exists?

Thanks!

Andrew

Andrew, welcome to the forum! How about posting an intro over in the "Member intro" section? Also it would be good to add your location to your profile.

Thanks,
Rod

See the thread titled 'power restriction in first three gears now lifted' A couple of companies now offer a remap to the ECU....nothing offered by Yamaha though.

What's wrong with a PC V and AutoTune?
IMO they are not sophisticated enough, especially with bikes that have secondary butterflies / fly by wire as they have no way of understanding where the ECU has managed the throttle so will fuel properly in all gears.

I had a ZZR1400 and it was a problem on those, many owners removed the secondary flies, but then the stock ECU will still fuel thinking these are limiting throttle opening, if you mao the bike on a PC3 in a higher gear it will be weak in the lower gears and Vice Versa.

I originally had a PC3 and then switched to a remap of stock ECU, the guy was able to map each gear AND each cylinder individually and it was far smoother afterwards.

I had a friend contact Graves about improving the performance for our bikes and the response was "They don't do anything with the Super Tenere".

With the PC V you can map each gear and each cilinder individually too. I'm confident that if you install a PC V and AT you will not be dissapointed.

Alternatively, there is no other option.

Can you also alter timing with the PC-V that was the other thing the remap chap could do with my kawasaki ECU was alter timing and remove retard in lower gears / at noise test revs etc.

May fancy a de-cat and remap to perk up the Yamaha, the only problem with the PC-V is it definately won't be able to alter Fly timing and therefore remove the 1st - 3rd restrictions so I would probably still look at the Diapson solution.

Dynojet does have that avalaible for some bikes, but not for the XT1200Z. It is called the PC V Ignition Module. See http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander/Products/IgnitionModule/powercommander_v_ignition_module.aspx

It is avalable for the Kawasaki ZZR http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander/powercommanders.aspx?mk=27&mdl=283&yr=2010&pc=17-012&mk-n=Kawasaki&mdl-n=ZX-14R&pc-ver=PCV&add-mdlyrid=17-012&add-mdlyrid2=17-012&fullstr=17-012

That is why we are tempted to have the ECU flashed in order to remove the gear1-4 restriction.

See the previously mentioned topic discussing the ECU restriction and options available.
