Now here's a "custom" that presents Yamaha's new Bolt cruiser in a whole different light... A Bolt "Scrambler"!!!

I think it's really a cool take on the Bolt, and IMHO if Yamaha would actually build something like this it would give Triumph's Scrambler a run for its money in the sale marketplace.

I think it looks great, and might be a nice option for the day when my exploded knees, etc. won't let me mount up on the high seat height of the Super Tenere! ::001::

BTW, that's the stock Yamaha Bolt fuel tank, but its character is completely changed with the cool, retro '70's Yamaha DT-series style paint job. Ya' know, Jaxon here has a long and successful history doing metric "customs", so I hope he sees this post. I think he could do an even better job doing a Bolt like this, like having a real-world usable seat instead of the upholstered plank on the bike pictured... And I'll bet he could do an even better exhaust system.

How 'bout it, Tabasco? What do you think of this Bolt custom, and what are your ideas for improving it?

I'd like to see a KR bumblebee flat tracker variant! But this one is very cool too.

Here is a Google search for Yamaha Bolt. Looks like someone built a track version.

https://www.google.com/search?q=Yamaha+Bolt&es_sm=93&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=GFpUUpO6Can3igKY-YCgCg&ved=0CEYQsAQ&biw=1366&bih=681&dpr=1

So what parts were replaced or modified?
> wheels & tires - replaced
> airbox - modified
> airbox screen - added
> headlight bracket - added
> headlight screen - added
> headlight - not sure if this was replaced
> fork boots - added
> muffler - replaced
> skidplate - added
> number plates - added
> tail light - replaced
> rear fender - modified
> seat - replaced
> turn signals - replaced

What have I missed?

After all of the other "customs" that are shown, I'd call that a real custom. Interesting AND functional.
I think Yamaha and everyone else could sell every modern take of scrambler if they thought it through and made it light, responsive and fun. Who really can use 200 HP and 190 MPH?

Yes, I want this one to come in under 500 lbs. wet. Let's say 100 lbs. less than the S10. 8)

Couldn't agree more. Why the cruiser crowd accepts the gross tonnage they get is lost on me. Perhaps because I spent so many years on off road bikes, I have a hard time getting on board with the whole 700 pound plus thing.

If our Teneres weighed about 450-475 they would be a lot better bike.

I got over the whole "heavier means a better ride" stuff when I traded my '86 Goldwing for a '93 BMW R100R. I've been pursuing less weight and better suspension ever since. This was also part of the reason I traded in my FJR for the S10. I gave up 75 lbs. and gained an additional 2 inches of suspension travel. No regrets.

Which is why I'm anxiously awaiting the 2015 XT1200RZ that weighs 420 pounds, AL frame, has 10" of suspension both ends, has 150 HP, and 8(!)drive modes, 5(!) TC settings, and switchable ABS. oh yes: costs 10,500 with Ohlins suspension costing only 50 bucks more.

But I'm a dreamer.....( more like a nut case!) but I'm not boring.

Oh, yeah... A lot longer. And they aren't Yamaha (Soqi) shocks as fitted on the R-Spec as shown here:

Now check on the one's on the Doc's Custom bike:

Along with the pics in the original post in this thread. The difference becomes more and more evident.

Oh yeah. BIG difference. Do you know which shocks these are?
