Long story short - %subj% (didn't realize it until someone asked this in the chat - checked in the catalogue - weird ! left footpeg has a slider, and the right does not).
Googled it, googled it here too, failed to find an answer. Suppose ST is asymmetric soooo..... the right side touches ground with something other than the right footpeg ?

With the stock suspension, I always thought it was fun to grind the steel 'wear' side down to a nub and then slide into the aluminum foot peg... Then just destroy the other foot peg into the ground.... LOL. I always that that was a hoot ! I could grind foot pegs in every / any corner.
Until I raised the bike and put WAY stiffer suspension on it...... I dont think Ive ever touched the pegs again.......... LOL. ******Ive tried***** LOL

Huh. I would have thought the centerstand touched first. It always did on my FJ.

I think the answer is the opposite. For safety reasons the manufacturer designs the foot pegs to touch down first. They give the rider immediate information and since they are foldable, they serve as a warning before any hard parts touch down. Without the feeler on the left foot peg, Yamaha must have found that something hard like the side or centerstand was touching down first on the left. They added the feeler to make sure the rider got the message about lean limits through the foot peg rather than though his/her ass skidding on pavement!
