I joined last year looking to purchase and bought a 2013. Found the folks and info on this site to be awesome! Sold the bike and went another direction I thought I might like better....nope. Should have just bought the gen2 I wanted from the beginning. Back here poking around at times looking on the for sale section. I'll have a gen2 shortly. This site is a good one.

Rarely ever post (as noted by my almost non-existent post count) because everything I would ever have asked seems to have been asked before. Crossed the country 5 times on the S10 and have a 6th this summer (helps that the wife's family has a get-together every summer in Maine and I am in Colorado). Love the bike and the forum is invaluable, but like quite a few here it seems, will mostly remain quiet a soak up the knowledge ...

When I moved on FROM the FJR, the S10 was the only bike I could find that had all of the features I wanted (in order of importance):

Adv/Sport Styling (non-cruiser)
1000cc +
Nice upright seating position
Reasonable Price (new leftover/demo)
Low Maint cost and intervals
Shaft Drive
Factory Cruise
Factory Heated Grips
ABS
TCS
Liquid Cooled
Electronic Suspension

I looked at others such as KTM Super Adventure, Multistrada, BMW R1200GS, and Versys 1000, but the best bang for the buck always came back to the S10. Is the bike the perfect bike? IMO - No. I would like to see Yamaha divide the model in a Adventure model and a Sport model. The sport model would have all of the features above with Mag Wheels that are the same diameter front/back and street tires, factory sport side cases (like the FJR or similar), and a sport seat style.

I looked very closely at the Versys 1000 as it has the sporty options I just listed, but I would lose many of my original requirements like: shaft drive, ES, heated grips, and cruise.

So for now, the S10 is the closest I can get to my perfect bike.

Part of me agrees with Hfjeff. But....then I think a sport version would muddy the waters too much. And, so far, I haven't needed a sport version of her. Last year, down in the Twisted Sisters, I was holding my own chasing my son on his R6. He had a lot more tire to lean on, but, for what she is, and what she weighs.... If I were to need something "sportier", I would just go back to the FJR. I guess no bike is "perfect", but she's as close as I need her to be. ::001::

I for one am moving on.
In 2011 I bought my “First Edition” and by the end of 2017 I was hoping that Yamaha would announce the gen3 of the S10 but when that didn’t happen  I decided to wait no longer and started my search for a bike to replace the S10 with.
This search resulted in buying a new 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 XRt :p and on Wednesday May 16 I am waving the S10 “Goodbye”. :(

Love my 14 S10 ES and can t say enough about this forum. One of the best I have been associated with. I have yet to hit a subject that isn't informative and spot on for the fix.

Keep up the good work. I continue to just ride and enjoy the view!

Thanks for everything and im sticking around

I changed bikes..
but I'm still here tormenting you tenere owners! >:D

The AT suits my riding style well.
That said, the ST is auperior when it comes to built quality. Honda no longer equals quality. A bitchy blog post is brewing..of sorts.

here's me last month in Cali. It was the best one yet

Not to hijack, but how is the AT for touring? Do you have the auto trainee?

Not me yet, just don't have the time I used to have. All I'm doing now is buying Batteries. I guess I have been off the forum for so long I can't attach an Emoji anymore on this forum? LOl

I was looking at that as well but have yet to see one in person. Once they are readily in stock I may have to take a look. It has all of the missing options I WISH the S10 had available. (mag wheels, more HP, etc.)

I was this close to moving on. I had done all the seat mods and I was still squirming in my seat.

Terry's Custom Seats to the rescue. It was a close thing, I was fed up. Much better now, not perfect but better.

Now, for a flash mod to fix that on /off throlle behavior.

This weekend I rode my friends 2017 BMW GSA with Touratech suspension,Wunderlich seat and it made me realize how much my Tenere sucks lol

Then again,i bought my 2012 in 2014 for $6.2k and he paid over $20k for his bike,$5k in Touratech suspension and a $1k seat,so it better be a whole lot better than my Tenere.

I have been a triple fanatic since the days i owned a Suzuki GT-750.
A local Triumph Dealer in Albuquerque PJ's Triumph Ducati (No longer around) let me have a full tank to try out one for about four hours.
I owned a 98 Tiger and my old mate 2003 Tiger 1050 that was the pick i chose.
I first took the 800XT for a spin it was what i wanted it was light high off the ground long enough on the legs, only issue the seat sucked for a big person and weak suspension for a heavy guy like myself.
Probably could have bought a different seat and fattened the suspension $$$ but passed on the 800.
Then next week i had the 1200XT WoW!! What a fast bike well handled and as not as quiet on wind as the Tenere, it was good on the interstate with plenty of throttle to go past 120.
I took it up a couple forestry roads and bounced it around some bumpy well used single trails and it handled it fairly well, the riders seat was longer than the 800.
Thing i didn't like, the gas tank was like looking down on a coffee table and thus gave you an illusion of the bike being top heavy.
The suspension was a little mushy even after giving it max twist.
It was a as the Brits say Brilliant bike but between the price and the early issues they had i bought the 1050 at a fat discount and three thousand miles with bags.
After the crash resulting in totaling my 1050 with 49k on it i went for a bike i wanted to get my hands on the first time i sat on one but couldn't afford..
My 2012 Tenere does it have the rush and push pull power of the triple Tiger 1200 no but, it has the same solid feel and more planted center of gravity with no major issues other than the dreaded HLIS... Let that sink in. ;) And Yamaha dealers on Mars.
Now with that i plan to stick around, besides i can't afford another steed and at 78k i wouldn't get much for my Tenere, resale value is one major downfall on Japanese bikes the moment the shadow of your butt show on the seat and turn the key.
What would i get if i did move on? If i owned an airplane hanger size garage most likely a Gold Wing for the wife to sit on back.
Besides i get more complements like i did with the beasty Green Goose steamer Tiger 900 i owned.
