The 78 and 180 are great roads also (as you know)Unfortunately, the road up and over was littered with sand and debris, especially in the corners. Very unnerving. It got my attention early on. Pretty much white-knuckle in the tight corners. Came up on two guys on Kawasakis. The guy on a 2002 ZRX1200 had gone down hard from the sand. Banged the bike up pretty good. He was pretty shook up. It was gonna be a long ride back to California.
I took 78 from Clifton over to US180 in New Mexico and the 180 up to Springerville. WOW!
It was a long day. When I got back to the motel, Big Daddy decided to take a nap in the parking lot. Go figger. The Givi crash bars did their job. Thankfully, a fellow rider came out and said, "I know that sound!"
But, I did it. The ride down was great. Good weather, for a change. Headed back to Wyoming to beat out the next blizzard.
Makes for an amazing loop!
Yes, the sand in the early season takes awhile to get washed off.........They do get snow up there.
I always liked to ride it late-season.........It's plenty clean by then.
