Unfortunately, the road up and over was littered with sand and debris, especially in the corners. Very unnerving. It got my attention early on. Pretty much white-knuckle in the tight corners. Came up on two guys on Kawasakis. The guy on a 2002 ZRX1200 had gone down hard from the sand. Banged the bike up pretty good. He was pretty shook up. It was gonna be a long ride back to California.
I took 78 from Clifton over to US180 in New Mexico and the 180 up to Springerville. WOW!
It was a long day. When I got back to the motel, Big Daddy decided to take a nap in the parking lot. Go figger. The Givi crash bars did their job. Thankfully, a fellow rider came out and said, "I know that sound!"
But, I did it. The ride down was great. Good weather, for a change. Headed back to Wyoming to beat out the next blizzard.
The 78 and 180 are great roads also (as you know)
Makes for an amazing loop!
Yes, the sand in the early season takes awhile to get washed off.........They do get snow up there.
I always liked to ride it late-season.........It's plenty clean by then.

Yesterday. AZ Classic - 4 Peaks to Butcher Hook for brunch. A-Cross to 288 up to Aztec Peak. Back down 288 and back home via Apache Trail. Lots of dirt and curvy pavement.
Waterfall area-

On top of Aztec we found an old Flintstones settlement.

Today I visited the memorial gardens of 2 maritime tragedies, the Lusitania and Titanic. After visiting the Titanic experience in Cobh it dawned on me that it struck the iceberg tonight and sunk tomorrow 113 years ago.
The last picture was taken from the balcony of the original White Star Line’s building where all of the 1st and 2nd class passengers would have boarded the tender, it also shows all that’s left of the original White Star Line pier in Cobh

Titan Missile Museum south of Tuscon.
It is the only remaining site after they were decommissioned in the 80's as part of the Start Treaty. The control room is all original preserved hardware, not replicas. Obviously, the war head has been removed.

Site was active for 20 years.

A lot of those facilities were/are for sale. They only took the important stuff and left the rest. Great for the zombie apocalypse.

I toured one of the missile sights in South Dakota. I thought it was one of the most interesting tours i have ever been on. If you like world history it is a place to see.

The other Titan sites were blown up. Probably decommisioned Minuteman sites. Alot more of those. Only 54 of these.

Did you get to do a launch sequence and vaporize a foreign city?
They gave one of the keys to the kid in the commander's seat. The targets were programmed into the missiles and not known by the crews.

I didn't pay attention to which missile sites they were. I was just amazed at how cheap they were, considering. They were the ones up in the mid-West. There was one that had flooded. Crystal clear water.

On Saturday. Oatman and Lake Havasu. Breakfast in Wickenburg.
Oatman is on the old Rt 66 SW of Kingman.

Swung through the tip of Nevada and California and rode over the London Bridge in Lake Havasu. Rode Across Parker dam on the Colorado River. Just under 600 miles total.
