Since I've hardly put any kms on this lil guy since I picked it up last week, I thought I'd do a little bit of gravel and asphalt on lower Vancouver Island. I haven't done any protective upgrading, so I was semi nervous about taking a bad luck rock to the underbelly.

Had fun anyways!

Having lived in Vigo County, IN (Terre Haute) for a handful of years (1999-2003), I'm always seeing a sign for Vigo Park, TX when I'm out riding certain parts of the Texas Panhandle where I now live. So, decided to take a short detour to get the scoop. How many places could share such a unique name? Built on speculation that a railroad would eventually come through (it didn't), the town consists of a few homes, a few more dilapidated buildings and a farmers co-op. Not much to the town, but great history to be learned.

I went in a 700 mile loop through South West Georgia to pick up some of the bonuses on the Grand Tour if Georgia (this years theme is Colleges). We also hit some spots form RoadsideAmerica.com

Met up with my buddy Don and had a Biscuit before we took off

Then off to the first Bonus at Point University.

Then off To Cuthburt, GA, for the next Bonus at Andrew College

Time to Eat again, so we stopped at Patterson's Restaurant. Not a pretty place from the outside, but a damn good burger and the couple running the place were a hoot. Retired Navy guy and, I guess, his wife. http://www.pattersonbbq.com

First RoadsideAmerica.com spot... Peter Toth "Whispering Giants" Indian Head Scupture. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/46195

We made it to the "Finish Line" but we still had a long way to go.

Some cool murals in Colquitt, GA...

This one was kind of Odd. Sanke in the pair of shoes. Girl cracking a paddle over a gotor's head.

These Grain Bins turned into apartments.

The Tree behind the building matches with the mural.

Snack Time at the DQ

Climax, GA.. well, just because

The Big Oak in Thomasville, GA. Another RoadsideAmerica.com http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/17630

Balfour Chapel at Thomas University. Another Bonus.

Worst. Hotel. Ever. Days Inn Albany, GA. First room don got was nasty, so we had them give us both different rooms. Don and I decided to sit outside of our rooms on the 2nd floor and watch the show in the parking lot for a bit. Propositions by 2 hookers..
more wandering the lot. Asked some guys where to buy beer and they told us the gas station across the street.. then offered to sell us some weed. cars cruising through the lot all night.
The Burger King next door closed the dining room at 8:30pm because they got robbed the night before, but would not sell us food in the drive through because we were not in a car.
Thought we were going to get in a fight in the KFC next door because some people were waiting on their food when we came in, but we ended up getting ours first.
We took off when the guy waiting at the table started raising hell. Just happy to see the bikes still parked where we left them in the morning. We should have stayed in Thomasville,
GA. It's sort of turned into a little Hipsterville with some expensive looking property.

I'll post Day 2 when I'm done in my meeting.

After an exceptionally crappy hotel breakfast, we headed off to the next GTGA Bonus. Albany State University.

and then off to see the revolving Ray Charles statue in his home town. Nice park, but the status was not revolving. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/21922

We had to turn around to see this creepy Muffler Man/Robo Cop that keeps watch in Leesburg, GA. He's not on the RoadsideAmerica.com site.

Our only little bit of dirt on this trip was through this pecan orchard near Fort Valley, GA.

Another snack stop at Lane Packing for some Peach Cobbler with Peach Ice Cream and a small carton of peaches to take home. http://www.lanesouthernorchards.com/

The last leg of our trip would get 2 more Bonuses on the GTGA and rack up about 700 miles for the loop.

the next Bonus was the Wesleyan College Alpha Delta Pi Fountain. I hope they pick something next year for the grand Tour where we don't look like a bunch of old creepy guys on campus.. especially at the historically female schools.

Final Bonus of the trip was the Military Memorial at Gordon State College in Barnsville, GA

Two more murals in Barnsville.

I didn't go too far from home, but I did manage to get off pavement for the first time. A little 50km stint on a local logging road. Since I'm very new to this kind of thing, it was a little weird for the first bit, but after the first 5 or so kms, I realised this is exactly the kind of thing I want to do all the time!

Rode up the Lockwood Valley area near Gorman, and hit some of the dirt roads. They are too sandy to be much fun now for me. One section that goes over a wash that I turned around before looked potential axle deep stuff. Of course on the one place I picked to turn around on that looked hard packed, wasn't. Front end washed out and I added a couple of more scratches to the collection on the crash bars to paint over.

Hit HWY 33 after that, and with the new tires, curve fun curve fun curve fun.

A quick run out for a coffee at the top of the Ibergeregg, east of Schwyz
I like that short pass, last time I went up there was in April, reached the bottom and saw people carrying skis, not a good sign, but went up anyway. Got a few stares as I rode through the slush........ then down to Sihlsee.
